Bison Gull Species in Star Tiger | World Anvil

Bison Gull

An avian creature on Argyre. These animals share traits with pterosaurs and modern birds alike.
They are most commonly seen walking on the rocks, picking between rocks with their long beaks, hunting for pancrustacean animals.
Due to its large size, it is possible that be creature could be tamed and carry a light rider.

Basic Information

Anatomy

These creatures have a wingspan at about 18 feet.
They have long beaks with rounded crests at the front of both its upper and lower beak, which is slightly serrated at points.
To keep ballance, it keeps its head tilted towards the ground.
While on the ground, they are quadrupedal, using their wings as they walk.
Most of its body is covered in down feathers, while the "hands" and feet are covered in scute.
Their wings and tail has actual feathers helping them stay airborne.

Genetics and Reproduction

More observation is needed, but they definitely lay eggs, that they keep in big nests gathered on taller rock formations.
Each nest seems to carry only one egg at a time.

Ecology and Habitats

The Bison Gulls live together in larger groups, having their nests close to each other in an elevated area.

Dietary Needs and Habits

They live entirely on larger pancrustaceans, that they hunt by scooping them up between the rocks with their long beak.

Behaviour

The Bison Gull usually stick together in their herd.
The pared mates seem to take turns watching the nests, while the partners are out hunting for pancrustaceans.
They don't react to much, and it would appear they have no natural predator on this planet.

Additional Information

Social Structure

They don't seem to have a clear hierarchy. They live close in relative large herds, mostly only interacting with their mate.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

By their large size and lax demeanor, it is possible that a Bison Gull could carry a light rider, if they prove to be tameable.

I made this world because my mind keeps rambling, and instead of stopping it, I'm riding the wave.
It started with a picture in my mind of a tiger man in a small spacecraft following a giant tiger in space, in the tone of old saturday morning cartoons and the Heavy Metal animated movie.
Then came the idea of his occational ally, a woman in space flying a small asteroid. The more I wrote on her, the more I got intrigued by the past, I deviced.
Right now the flow is focused on her background - namely all related to The Genesis Project.
I do all of the writing and almost all of the drawing myself at this point.
My hope for Star Tiger is a published story or a graphical novel, but my big dream is an animated show.
