If you (a player character) have Heroic Inspiration, you can expend it to reroll any die immediately after rolling it, and you must use the new roll.
If you gain Heroic Inspiration but already have it, it’s lost unless you give it to a player character who lacks it.

The Coin of Blood
When playing the DM may elect to use coins to represent heroic inspiration. These coins represent the whims of fate, the fancy or fury of an ascended power, or sheer luck. There are thirteen coins in a pouch for players to draw from, and each gives the benefit of heroic inspiration, but the thirteenth coin is marked with blood and cursed. This is the coin of blood.
While a player holds the coin of blood, some mysterious disfavour falls upon them. This may be enemies targeting them more often, a natural event that effects them greater than others, or even a shift in the attitude of NPCs they attempt to deal with.
The coin of blood can be spent as a regular coin, as heroic inspiration, however it may only be spent when harming another living being in some manner. Players are encouraged to be creative with how they accomplish this, it need not be physical bloodshed, but the creature must:
Be living
Be aware of the individual harming it
Not be reduced to 0 hit points or less by the action the coin is being spent for.
Those that draw the coin of blood find it is best to discard it sooner, rather than later, but that circumstance may make this difficult.
Lastly, if a player gains the coin of blood while they already hold a coin, they must give it to the character with the lowest current hit point percentage that does not currently hold a coin.
