The legend of Zantos

*Spoilers*
(Read Infinite Misconception first)       The Legend of Zantos depicts an all-powerful god-like creature that takes the form of a celestial dragon god. The legend came from a story passed down winding all the way back down to 1,000 A.D., when a large town storing a large amount of unrefined lunar energy was destroyed by an explosive chain reaction from containment breach. The explosion of pure lunar energy gave birth to a sentient power, its essence made entirely out of a non-physical ethereal presence that allowed the dragon to transform and take many forms.   This enraged dragon god razed the survivors of the town to waste, and continued ravaging the lands of Sprawn Valley, while many investigating the dragon thought this Zantos had the power to leave the sacred lands of magic and increase its level of destruction. Many perceived this to be a bad omen, a sign that humans were messing too much with a forbidden substance. Others took up arms against the creature.   Ledged has it that a band of brave mages worked together invoking pure lunar magic to take the creature down. Once defeated, the mages realized that Zantos was only passed out, the being immortal. So they constructed a magic temple capable of sealing the essence of Zantos, to hide it underground and warn all future generations never to release him back into the wild ever again.

Summary

The reason that this myth is not taken seriously by high ranking mages has more to do with the insane idea that uncontrolled magic could give birth to a sentient creature, let alone a god. The legend describes that those who defeated Zantos did so by using their magic. But during this era, Leray magic had not yet been invented, nor was dark magic a thing of the past. As physical science points out, the use of lunar magic for any human being is absolutley fatal. Those who would have tried to defeat Zantos using lunar magic would have died. Even if sucessful in taking down such an impossible creature, they would not have the strength and stamina left over to construct a tomb for the downed dragon god.

Historical Basis

The destruction of the town by an explosive containment breach of combined lunar crystals was confirmed to be possible and occurred in the time and place the legend describes. However, there is no further evidence that supports the being of Zantos or his temple.

Spread

The myth has died out over the centuries since no evidence of Zantos or the temple of Zantos was found. Very few highly ranked govermnent officials probably remember hearing about it at least. Even myths and legends are archived in the sacred libraries of Eldora Tower. However, even with the digital transformation of the intranet archives in Sprawn Valley, the legend of Zantos is not popular at all, except it seems, to one Scarlet Cult.

Variations & Mutation

The Scarlet Cult seems to think they can use lunar magic in order to control Zantos, despite the legend itself revealing no such possibility.
