Resistor Surge

When a wielder places down a Resistor Surge unit into the ground below them, the unit activates a low-level magical nullification field, which is specifically designed only to work on the opposing ability - Star of Darkness. When a wielder is about to suffer from a Star of Darkness attack, the Resistor Surge can limit its power, effectively cutting all of the power levels including the effects of HP and stamina drain in half for the full duration of the enemy spell. However, in order to be effective at all, the Resistor Surge must be activated before the activation of the Star of Darkness payload, or the completion of its holographic symbol on the ground. When Resistor Surge is working, every effect from the Star of Darkness spell is cut in half, including the final payload of the double electrical strike. This unit also cuts in half the effectiveness of other draining spells, such as Drain, Drainga, and Void Edge. Resistor Surge has no other effect on spells other than the mentioned abilities above.

The Resistor Surge item uses magical energy to generate this nullification field that lasts for 30 seconds, more than enough time to counter the Star of Darkness spell. Resistor Surge can alternatively be spawned with its spell, Resistor Surge, which uses MP in the place of physical materials and the currency needed to purchase a resistor surge.

Rare: The materials and components needed to create these items without the use of magic makes them fairly expensive. Because the spell variation of this unit is far cheaper (only 5% MP energy), most wielders spit on the very idea of paying high price for something they can simply summon in battle. Instead, these rarity items are studied heavily by the scientific mages, fascinated only by the idea of using a non-magical item that either generates an anti-magic field, or another result that affects existing magic using only electrical/battery powered energy.

Various electronic components and internal wiring power the device while controlling how the unit behaves and functions. The complicated structure of this unit uses a wide variety of cheap minerals and crystals in a resonance behavior to project a special field that affects the magical dimension and spacial area around the Resistor Surge. The unit also rotates on a disk when active, allowing the top beacon to rotate in a vertical axis for its full area effect, while the red LEDs give signs of life as the device is powered on. The steel frame of the unit gives this item a small level of armor to resist an early death from stray damage. Once the unit is used up and deactivated, its energy source and frame can be recycled for spare parts easily for a limited number of times, unless destroyed by stray damage.
