Eskerhara Settlement in Spirit of the Age | World Anvil

Eskerhara

A great city of the Sevestan orcs, Eskerhara is the capital of the Sevestres, and has been such since the Sevestans accepted the lands offered to them by the Palatines they served. Stood on the banks of the river Orna, the city is among the most ancient in the known world. Fed primarily by the farmlands on the banks of the Orna to the south, the city is foremost the administrative and cultural center of the Sevestres, but is also known as a great center of swordmaking.

Outside the walls of Eskerhara are the Fields of Thunder, where the hosts of the Sevestans muster for war.

Districts

On the eastern bank of the river upon the hill is the Old City of the Oslams. Though the city has suffered greatly in war, the core of the Oslam city remains, and appears much as it did in the past. The painted columns of the Oslams yet stand, and continue to be maintained and repaired by the Sevestans. The Oslam temple which in the past stood at the center of the old city has become a temple to God the Conqueror of the Sevestans.

On the opposite bank is the great hall of the Sevestan king, and the Field of the Chieftains, where public events such as courts, games, and annoucements are held. Unlike the Old City, most of Eskerhara is built of wood, forming narrow streets which have gradually expanded even outside the earthwork and stone wall of Eskerhara.

History

Settlement in Eskerhara predates the Palatine empire. The date of its original founding is unknown, over 700 years ago the settlement, already a city then, was known as Romha, and was inhabited by a people known as the Oslams. Very little is known about this time, as the Oslams were defeated by the Palatines and their Sevestan orcish allies. The record indicates that the Oslams were destroyed as a distinct people, and their lands were bequeathed to the Sevestans. Renamed Eskerhara after the Sevestan warlord as the time, it has since served as the capital of the Sevestres.

I really like that they still repair and maintain the columns of the old nation, and that they've repurposed the temple.
