The Pinnery

About half a century back, an aelfir fashionista by the name of Light-Lashing-the-Heart, attempted to capitalize on a flash in the pan fashion trend. He leveled a sizable portion of slums in The Works and built a sprawling factory in its stead. Light-Lashing-the-Heart may have had a head for fashion, but he lacked even a fundamental understanding of industry. By the time the factory was finished, the Hair Pin fad had come and gone, and the newly built factory was abandoned and rented out.   The community that formerly stood where the factory is now has reformed as a sort of factory village around the complex, which they now simply refer to as The Pinnery. The interior of the factory is now an industrial park, with makeshift walls separating the various operations within. Businesses come and go at The Pinnery, as many operations are unable to generate enough revenue to cover both the high rent and the protection racket that the local guardhouse runs.

Operations Currently Running at the Pinnery

  • Filny's Fertilizer: Tucked away in a remote corner of The Pinnery, this place stinks to New Heaven. Fertilizer production is of course a front for the production of synthetic malak, Drip. The idea was to make sure no one wanted to come near their operation, and they keep enough fertilizer on site that it actually works. It also helps that the Filny's payments to the city watch are always on time, if not early.
  • Wall to Wall Wall Co.: A business that makes portable, easy to install walls out of ground down debris they find around the city. Their inventory has been building, and is shrinking their work space more everyday. Jacko and Smeen, the Drow brothers that operate it, have been desperately trying to find new customers before they get tossed out.
  • Undying Pins: A human industrialist, by the name of Pater Lamsley, got the bright idea that Aelfir fashion is cyclical (it isn't), and is gearing up for the Hair Pin craze to return.
  • Spring-River-Slumbers' Studio: An Aelfir artist creates sculptures out of detritus that she welds together into dizzying works of art. She is slumming it, and has found inspiration in the "abject depravity given ceaseless purpose". Her works are gaining in popularity in the upper city, but thankfully none of her patrons descend to her workshop.
  • Trends & Statistics Reporting: The printing press operated by the Gayle siblings, where they publish their publicly available manufacturing reporting paper, and their secret revolutionary pamphlets. They have their operation rigged with incendiary devices should they be faced with being discovered by the authorities.
  • Have-a-Haunt Dolls: A manufacturing operation that makes dolls that are supposed to house the souls of the departed so that they may remain with their families, lending spiritual guidance and support. There is no real evidence that they work, but they have been a popular seller lately.
  • Limye's Lanterns: A Drow family business that took the leap into large scale production. The lanterns made here are of excellent quality, and each one is guaranteed to have been bestowed with a blessing of Limye.
  • Masters of the Universes: A cabal of burnt out occultists that have found a way to create pocket dimensions, but aren't able to access them. They're just kind of there...sort of. They have pivoted this into selling "Your very own universe!" They keep track of every dimension they create in a metaphysical directory, and note exactly where in the nothing space your registered universe is.
