The Fulcrum Yard Massacre

The 7th Fall, in the Year of Scattered Feathers, is a bloody day that shall live in infamy. It marked the end of the most credible Drow uprising in over a century. Workers across the industrial heart of Spire, known as The Works, were throwing down their tools, sabotaging machinery, and protesting in front of work houses. Even many of the indentured Drow who were chained in rows at their assembly lines were freed to join in the movement. With Lieutenant Grim-Lyrics-of-the-Wind leading the charge, the city watch began cracking down on Drow demonstrations. The focus was displays of brutal suppression, that left workers injured, but alive so that they might return to the workforce when they healed up.   Although their raids were sufficiently bloody to quell the hopes most of the striking workers, there were still some determined to hold out in the face of bloody reprisals. That's when the leader of the anti-worker initiative decided to change tactics. Lieutenant Grim-Lyrics-of-the-Wind, now operating with reinforcements from all over the city, ordered those under his command that they were to use lethal force when they arrived at the Fulcrum Manufacturing factory yard. Reports of how the conflict began differ. Some say that the protestors hurled bricks and insults at the guards. Others say that they congregated peacefully, but unyielding, and sang old Drow songs as their doom marched toward them. The aftermath is something none can dispute. With the protest taking place in the factory yard, the demonstrators were fenced in on three sides by looming architecture, and the watch cut off their only avenue of escape. The assault was fast and merciless, and many onlookers who weren't part of the movement were sucked into the chaos.    Roughly 300 people were slaughtered by the conspicuously well armed city watch. Blood ran in rivulets through the cracked cobblestone streets. It was left to the people of The Works to clear the bodies, and many had started to rot by the time the grim task was nearing completion. Everyone in The Works had lost someone they loved that day, but even more than that, they had lost the spirit of hope. Now the phrase "Get out of the yard" is something Drow tell each other when they think someone is heading down a course that could bring the authorities down on their community again.
