Hardwood
The once prominent woodcutter’s town of Hardwood now serves as a cultural retreat for the statesmen of Hemton and the industrialists of Paxton . The lumberjacks of old have long left for better jobs in the cities and only few families remain to service the rich landowners.
Found on the North stretch of Lake Silverspire, the town is a tangle of wooden architecture and floral paradise. The large houses all boast extensive gardens and most have prime lake views.
The reflected mountains on the surface of the lake are disturbed by an armada of leisure boars. The pebble beaches throng with overindulged families frolicking in the sun. Amateur botanists and adventurers scramble through the incredible terrain that teams with wildlife.
Few scars remain of the old ways, rubbed out by the new residents who prefer not to be reminded of those who suffered for them to rise. The last monument to the lumberyards and the men and women who kept the traditions alive stands on a rocky knoll north-west of the settlement: a lone woodcutter’s axe, buried in a still growing elm.
