Structure

The head of the organization is a Yaletria, a woman of fiery temper and wild appearance, who resides in the guild's headquarters in Spirehold. She took the leadership role from her mother, who took it from her father.

Each Apex Chapter in other places around Yridos are headed by a member of her family, who serves as a point of contact for the transmission of contracts, and other important guild news. These leaders also serve as a mediator, ensuring relations between guild members remains pleasant, breaking up disputes as need be, and acting as final say if need be on matters of contention amongst guild members. They are also responsible for keeping track of the threats nearby their hall, determining which need be hunted on the guild's own prerogative, versus on contract.

The core of the group is made up of Hunting Parties, each of which have their own leader, and act independently. To these Hunting Parties, the Master of the Hunt in each hall brings the contracts deemed worthy of their attention for them to take on.

Culture

Internal

The guild is one of hunting great and dangerous beasts. In keeping, the culture revolves heavily around the proving of one's worth through valor and exhibition of martial and survival skills. While each guild has a leader figure, they exist primarily as a liaison to would-be members and external guilds or people seeking to deal with them, or hire them, rather than directing the guild members. Each Hunting Party maintains autonomy, choosing what contracts to bid for, which monsters to hunt, and how they prefer to operate.

Outside of the work that being a member of the Guild brings, the organization is primarily a social club, with the hall providing a space for members to rest, drink, eat, socialize, and come to find work or receive payment. There is a culture of comradery, a sort of brothers-in-arms mentality that mandates protecting their own, and a wariness of outsiders.

External

From the outside, the Apex seems to have an air of arrogance, its members paradingh through town as though they were its saviour, which they often are. While their work garners them respect, many believe them to be brutish, and the secrecy with which they treat their traditions beyond their walls has led to people eyeing them with some suspicion.

Yet there seems always to be a need to prove themselves to those they protect, to be recognized as skilled hunters of beasts, and many places treat them with a sort of fearful reverence.

Public Agenda

The Hunter's Apex aims to protect the settlements across Yridos by keeping the monsters reigned in, driving them away from populated areas, ranches and farmlands, and trade routes.

Assets

The Hunter's Apex are in posession of a wide range of rare trophies from their greatest kills, as well as an array of special weapons and equipment, often made by members of a certain Chapter skilled in such crafting arts. Some examples include:

  • The Moon Sickle
  • The Maw of Hauntscreamer
  • The mouth of a particularly vocal ancient Sandwyrm
  • Talisman of Batra's Favour
  • Mandible of a gargantuan Antlion
  • History

Formed shortly after The Fall of Saikar, the Hunter's Apex began as a group of skilled warriors seeking income in a world riddled with chaos and destruction. They began in Spirehold, offering their service as caravan guards, monster hunters, and the city's vanguard protectors. As their reputation grew, more eagerly sought to join their ranks, whether for glory, money, or a sense of purpose. They began branching out, becoming one of the most powerful organizations beneath the Caliphate, until the S.A.C came knocking.

They were one of the voices speaking out strongly against joining the S.A.C, arguing they were adequate defense, and that Yridos need not cowtow to this new coalition and sacrifice the wealth, independence, and society they had built. But in 1682 AD, a massive increase in raids and attacks by giants and other monsters above the Silent Shore pushed them to their limit, and then beyond. Eventually, as things fell apart, the Caliphate caved and called for help, despite the Apex's continued protests.

Later, when Operation Icebreaker was leaked, the enraged Apex swore against the S.A.C, refusing to acknowledge their rule or follow their customs. As of yet unable to do anything about it, and still finding their value higher than their cost, the S.A.C has let them be.

    Hunt or be hunted.
