Genesis Seeds

History

A technology developed during the expansion of the Saikar Empire, Genesis Seeds were developed out of the discovery of what Technomancers called Genesis Trees. This rare tree appeared in places far removed from humanity, and it was discovered that their seed pods were bursting with an ancient magic that made life grow much faster and much stronger and more lushly.

After extensive study, the Genesis Seed was created; a device capable of being deployed in a low orbit around a planet, and was designed to magnify and direct the otherwise sporadic and uncontrolled energy within the seeds, encouraging immediate and rapid seeding of plant life and atmosphere like that of Bastion on even the most inhospitable worlds. The satellite featured a bare bones structure, with the majority of its mass taken up by the Genesis Seed's utilization core, and the 6 oblong panels hundreds of feet long that formed a tube to capture, enhance, and direct the seeds energy down to the planet. Once the seeding was complete, the orbitals were shut down and left drifting, to eventually burn up in the atmosphere.

When the food crisis began to reach its peak, after an abrupt and all encompassing crop failure on Bastion that would never rebound, the Empire began to focus the Genesis Seeds specifically on the development of agricultural worlds. Entire planets, occupied and deserted, were targeted by the Seeds and turned into production farming worlds. The more these seeds were spread, the worse the food quality became. The output amount was sufficient to feed the people, but the produce created appeared comparatively colourless, and took on the texture and appearance of something on the cusp of going bad. Some people began asking questions and trying to discover the cause, but those in power refused to give the issue time or money. The agricultural worlds were doing their job, and giving the population the nutrients to survive, and that was all they cared about.
