MORTSIGIL AUTHORITY - CITIZEN ORIENTATION

Standard Living Citizen Brief - Version 127 PM

Officer Designation: Kael Brennick
Badge: MSA-4719
Division: Central Enforcement
Clearance: Public Information Protocol

You still got breath. That makes this orientation mandatory reading.

I'm Officer Brennick, Mortsigil Authority. That means I've seen what happens when people don't abide by the law. Unless you want to be another ruined vessel being scraped off a basement floor, pay attention.

THE SYSTEM YOU'RE IN

Death isn't the end. It's regulated. The Necromacy Union Network (NUN) sets the laws. We the MSA, enforce them. Spirits power your city, work your shifts, and maintain infrastructure that never sleeps. This runs on ectoplasmic grids, licensed possession, and Phantom Score assessments that determine every postmortal's value.

You're living, so you've got rights. Ghosts have rights too. Where those intersect? That's where most violations occur.

YOUR IMMEDIATE OBLIGATIONS

If you're planning postmortal transition: Read the Phantom Registration Guide. Understand Phantom Scores before you die—your rating determines everything after.

If you're leasing your body as a vessel: The Art of Vesselry isn't optional. Identity bleed, neurological damage, and permanent corruption are real. Know the risks.

If you're employing spirits: Corporate Possession Protocols and Spectral Labor Standards. Violations carry dissolution penalties for spirits and criminal prosecution for you.

If you're encountering possession issues: Cultural Integration Guide for etiquette violations. Mortsigil Authority for criminal violations. Know the difference.

LEGAL FOUNDATIONS

Everything here operates under the Postmortal Social Code., sections §1-§24. Key codes:

  • §7 series: Living rights (refusal, autonomy, protection)
  • §12 series: Possession regulations (licensing, duration, consent)
  • §14 series: Spectral labor (compensation, safety, union rights)
  • §18 series: Criminal violations (unauthorized possession, forced binding, energy theft)

Full code available at all NUN facilities. Digital access at NUN-Central-Archive.

EMERGENCY CONTACTS

Active Violations: Mortsigil Authority Response - Frequency 47.3 MHz
Two-hour response for active threats. Immediate dispatch for daemon emergence.

Legal Questions: NUN Citizen Resource Centers - Open 24/7
Consultation within 48 hours. Code §2.4 compliance.

Labor Disputes: Hauntworkers' Union - Underground Network Access
Semi-legal status. Can't always help officially, but they know the real landscape.

Medical Emergencies: Pattern Stabilization Clinics - Nearest Facility Locator
Identity bleed, possession trauma, corruption symptoms.

FINAL WARNING

The documents I've referenced aren't suggestions. They're survival tools. Vale Necrotech markets "family preservation." The NUN enforces "regulatory stability." Underground networks promise "liberation."

All of them are correct. All of them are lying.

Read the manuals. Understand the system. Make informed choices. You still got breath—keep it that way, or at least know what you're signing when you don't.

Dismissed.

Welcome to Postmortal Earth (127 PM)

  Death didn’t vanish—it reorganized.
Cities run on ectoplasmic grids, ghosts clock in for labor shifts, and the living navigate statutes crafted for those who no longer breathe.
  You’re entering a world where:

  • Consciousness is currency.
  • Possession is licensed and audited.
  • Containment fields moan under every street.

  •   Here you’ll find the history, factions, technologies, cities, and characters that define Spectropunk.
If you still have breath, step carefully. The dead are unionized.

    New to Spectropunk? Start Here.

Postmortal Earth runs on a few essentials:

The Pattern – The metaphysical lattice that keeps reality stitched together.

When it frays, streets go strange and spirits behave wrong.

    • Spirits – Concordant citizens with jobs, contracts, and energy allowances.

They power grids, ride vessels, and bargain for geist.

    • The Living – Everyone still breathing. Some rent their bodies;

some become ghost-fed and feel every spectral shift.

    • Necrotech – Ghost-powered machinery: spirit-lenses,

containment lattices, neural bridges, deadstitch augmentation.

    • Phantom Scores – Numbers that decide a spirit’s work, rations,

    and legal protections.

    • The NUN – The Necromacy Union Network: bureaucracy,

regulations, and consequences—for both breathing and dead.

    • The Shadow Side – Memory markets, vessel rings,

    possession addiction, daemon emergence.

Read this field first if you’re brand new to the setting.

    How Existence Works Now

As of 127 PM, humanity spans three entwined states:
THE LIVING Still breathing. Workers, officers, surgeons, smugglers, researchers and fighters. Some are ghost-fed—able to host spirits easily and feel the Pattern flex around them.
THE DEAD (POSTMORTALS) Concordant spirits with documented Phantom Scores. They sign labor contracts, manifest through geist stipends, and take shifts in vessels, grids, and machines. Rogue spirits survive outside the system on stolen energy and luck.
THE MERGED When the Pattern buckles, spirit and host can fuse into something new: synallagmatic beings (daemons). Neither alive nor dead, they rewrite the rules they touch.
Most articles in this world drill deeper into one of these states.

    Where to Go Next

Spectropunk is a Möbius world—every path loops back on itself. Choose a starting route:
Timelines – Follow how death became infrastructure, from the Blackmere Incident to current day 127 PM.
Factions & Orders – Vale Necrotech, NUN divisions, Mortsigils, Ghost Protocol, the Ancestral Way.
Necrotech – Containment fields, neural interfaces, deadstitch labs, soul-stabilizing gear.
Cities & Maps – Threnody District, Manhattan Necroplex, Shin-Osaka, Anatolian spirit grounds.
Characters – Ghost-fed fighters, postmortal artists, memory brokers, dead reporters, Pattern cops.
Culture – Music, possession etiquette, spectral slang, memory trade, everyday haunt-life.
Use this as your compass whenever you feel lost.
