Uriy

Basic Information

Anatomy

A uriy's body consists of three legs arranged in a triangle which meet at the level of their pelvis, these end in the shape of a point and allow them to have great stability in their movement. The pelvis is connected to the torso and is comparatively thinner for males. The females have a broader, more elastic pelvis since this is where the young develop. The rest of their body, especially their torso, is shifted backwards compared to the junction of their legs. The back of their torso is covered with their carapace to which is attached to the top of this one outgrowths composed of the same material as the carapace whose shapes vary between individuals, the uriys generally attach a lot of importance to this characteristic. Their two arms end in hands having five fingers, one of which is the equivalent of the thumb, their fingers end in claws. Their head, resembling a bump protruding from their body, has four eyes and a mouth with four small limbs that close the opening. These also predigest the food to then send it to the stomach where it will be completely digested.

Genetics and Reproduction

The uriys are viviparous animals, after mating which is done approximately the same way as in humans, the only difference is in the arrangement of the organs, a seed is fertilized. Development then takes place within the mother's body until birth, which occurs about ten months after fertilization, the rest of the growth to adulthood takes place outside the mother's body.

Growth Rate & Stages

The childhood of uriys takes place between birth and the age of ten, the last phase of growth is adolescence which extends from eleven until the age of sixteen when a uriy is considered an adult. Their natural lifespan is up to 35 years. However, their technological developments have pushed this limit further.

Ecology and Habitats

The uriys' natural habitat is the oceans of their homeworld, where they find most of their food and water, as they have adapted to ingesting salt water. Of course, the further their civilizational development progressed, more and more they will be able to rise above the waters of their native world. However, they will always stay close to water, moreover, the experience of the occupation will be particularly traumatic for them. Indeed, the qravadoxs will force some of them to go to work in space due to their good ability to resist low gravity.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Their diet is omnivorous, but with a stronger carnivorous tendency, particularly small crustaceans and everything connected to the ocean such as fish, molluscs and many others. Although this does not constitute the majority of their diet, they do like plants such as algae or other plants from their home planet.

Additional Information

Social Structure

The trauma of the qravadox occupation, which established a great distinction between the qravadox and the uriys, established an extremely egalitarian social structure upon the liberation of their planet. This was felt in the policies of the state which did everything not to create social class. Even if there is indeed a certain political class, it does not really have any privilege apart from the decisions it takes for the population, the same thing for the business sector.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

The uriys are almost entirely concentrated in the space of the Free Uriy Commonwealth since only the planets of this one can support this species. Small diasporas are also present in the capitals of other nations, these are the diplomatic staff of the Free Uriy Commonwealth.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Uriys possess the five senses of sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell, even if the last one is less utilised because of their aquatic nature, all of which are enabled by a particular organ. The sight is of course possible because of their four eyes which also grants them a greater peripheral vision, practical for the management of their three legs. Hearing thanks to their single ear placed between their eyes, smell as well as taste thanks to their members placed close to their mouth, the latter also allow them to hear the low frequency sounds of their peers to communicate and achieve echolocation in deeper environments. Finally, touching it with their two large hands, a little larger than average and also used for swimming.

Civilization and Culture

Major Organizations

The major organization of this species is the Free Uriy Commonwealth whose capital is the home planet of the uriys, this organizations is the result of its victory in the Uriy Independence War. It is this organization that represents and defends the uriy interests within the galaxy. Unfortunately, this entity is not powerful enough to really have a real impact on galactic geopolitics. It is also under the majority influence of the Zelvan Council and to a lesser extent under the influence of the Myrran Trade Union.

Average Technological Level

With the help of the Myrran Trade Union, the Zelvan Council and the qravadox technologies that were abandoned by them on Ungus, the Commonwealth managed to catch up with the technological backlog a few decades after the war and the founding of the Commonwealth. Today, it is approximately on the same technological level as most other entities in the galaxy although being less advanced on more sensitive technologies. Having developed several key technologies in the field of genetic engineering, artificial intelligence, nano-robotics as well as the mastery of supra-luminal travel. All these advances have made it possible to increase life expectancy, facilitate space transport and many other benefits for the population as well as the economy.

History

Originally a an aquatic predator living near the fields of floating Ungus algae which hunted fish-like prey. However, a scarcity of their main prey following a change in their migration route will force them to diversify and they will slowly become omnivorous by eating algae. Subsequently, the increase in their population will force them to help each other to start cultivating these so-called algae in addition to increasing the effectiveness of hunting by doing it in groups forcing them to develop their communication based on low-pitched sounds frequencies. All these changes will slowly lead to the creation of an agrarian civilization with multiple small kingdoms that will sometimes go to war with each other.

However, their aquatic environment will block their technological development since they will not have access to any metals or fuels to create fires. It is after a hundred years in this situation that they will be invaded by the Qravadox Directorate who will use them to manufacture ships in orbit due to their resistance to lower gravity. This will suddenly block their progress and keep them in a state of inferiority until the Myrran Trade Union and the Zelvan Council free them. These will then help them to develop their version of the Star Drive and master the gates technology, it should however be noted that it is the Zelvan Council which will contribute the most, having been less affected by the war than the Myrran Trade Union.
