People House
Purpose / Function
The building is mainly used to accommodate the legislative apparatus of the Republic and to allow the thousands of senators to sit during the sessions. It also includes several rooms that are used for press conferences of party leaders or the President after a vote of the Senate. Several wings of the building are also dedicated to the history of the Republic which are accessible to the public, they contain several historical artefacts or photos with texts describing the history of it.
Alterations
The main change that the building has experienced is the multiple enlargement of the hemicycle which is the part of the building that welcomes the Parliament of the Republic. These expansions were made necessary due to the natural increase in the population of the Republic which necessitated an increase in the number of deputies.
Architecture
The building is divided into two parts, the first is in the shape of a rectangle with rounded edges and extends over an area slightly superior than the second. It rises over six floors and mainly accommodates the administrative services of the two chambers of the legislative system of the Republic, the first floor includes the entrance hall for employees as well as elected officials, the press room and a small museum open to the public. audience. A mast with a flag of the Republic, the Senate and the Parliament of the Republic are attached to it, it is located in the center of the rectangle.
The second part is undoubtedly the most important, it is in the shape of a circle and rises over twelve floors. It is within it that the two hemycicles are located which welcome the members of the Senate and the Parliament of the Republic. The whole being connected by an annex of the same height as the first part and containing two corridors on two floors to access the Senate and the Parliament. The exterior cladding is made of white steel with glazed sections to let in natural light, there are also green areas and the roof of the first part is used as a terrace for employees.
History
After the founding of the Federal Republic, it will be decided to build a brand new building for the legislative branch of government near the former headquarters of the United Nations and then the Solar Confederation. Even though it had undergone several renovations over the years, the space present was no longer sufficient for the colossal needs that would arise.
