Mern

Mern is a terrestrial planet known for its heavy snowfall and cool climate. The planet is the homeworld of the Mernites species and their culture. The planet’s indigenous species the Mernites are adapted to the colder climate and have learned how to live and even harness it.   Mern is a member of the Galactic Coalition.

Star System

The planet is one of three planets in a single-star system. The planet itself has two moons orbiting it which have some small colonies on them, but nothing major mostly just mining companies.

Ecosystem & Geography

The planet is known for having a lot of snowfall, with snow even being common near the equator in the winter months. The closer one gets to the poles the heavier and more intense the snow and winters become. The summers are more mild with less snowfall and mild pleasant weather near the equator.

Population

The largest cities and urban areas are mostly located near the equator where the seasons are not as extreme. Most people living in these areas live in inner-city apartments and townhouses or more spaced-out suburban areas filled with houses. These areas have the most infrastructure and development.   There are also cities located further north and south, but these are often smaller and a bit more spread out due to the harsher weather. These areas often have less infrastructure due to the climate they are in as well as their ruralness.   The population is mostly made up of Mernites with small pockets of other species being present, mostly living in the cities. Very few non-Mernites live on the planet due to the colder climate.

Infrastructure

The planet has a good amount of industrialization and infrastructure, mostly using the planet's geothermal energy for power, especially in urban areas. There are extensive tunnels and mining systems that help the Mernites gather resources and power from their planet.   The planet has a well-developed underground train system that allows one to travel from one side of the planet to the other without having to worry about snow storms or other weather-related delays.
