Cirelian Law Enforcement

Law enforcement is one of the three aspects of criminal justice on Cirelia alongside the court system and the correctional system.   Law enforcement operates mainly through agencies with government funding. These agencies can be easily divided into the Planetary Defence Department, a federal agency that maintains law and order across the planet, and Local Defence Departments, smaller more localized agencies that look over a specific area.

Planetary Defense Department

As described earlier, the Planetary Defence Department is a federal agency in charge of maintaining law and order across the planet. These departments include police, investigative, and tactical agencies working under the Planetary Defense Department albeit with much autonomy.

Planetary Investigative Bureau

The Planetary Investigative Bureau is an agency focused on the security and protection of the Cirelian people and government. There are many different departments focusing on different aspects such as intelligence, National Security, Crime, etc, and then even lower sub-departments that get into specific types of crimes, security threats, etc.
If they find that they just cannot crack the case, they will request help from the Coalition Law Enforcement , specifically the investigation branch.

Local Defence Departments

Local Defence Departments are regional departments in charge of maintaining the law and order in that area. It has many sub-departments, with a clear chain of command, leading down from the regional level to the municipal level.
These departments are designed mainly to focus on security and arresting those who have committed crimes. They are in charge of making sure that the criminals in their jurisdictions are not up to anything and if they are to stop them and hold them accountable. They are also responsible for issuing tickets for small crimes like noise complaints, speeding tickets, and the like.
If they get in over their heads, such as with criminal investigation, they will call in an investigative unit from their higher-up department which would have one. This is obviously not required if the local department already has an investigative team, but if they get in over their head they may have to go up to the regional or even to the federal level for help.
