Iteration in Soulbank | World Anvil

Iteration

Though nominally immortal, Users who experience too much Drift are reconstructed in a procedure known as reiteration. This takes their remaining uncorrupted memories and rebuilds the individual. For many Users, it is a form of reincarnation and an open question if the new iteration is the same person as the previous one. Some Users voluntarily undergo reiteration, not waiting for memory corruption to decide what they keep. In either case, it is not uncommon for Users to leave an Iterative Will that states which memories and personality traits their next self retains. Such wills typically contain an agenda as well, or in the case of a newly iterated Innocent, a mantra.

Reiteration is often a painstaking procedure, especially when Drift from deresolution is involved, and the User's new iteration may wake up in a vastly different Soulbank than the one their previous self lived in. Particularly egregious criminals may be sentenced to reiteration or an extended stay on the Resolution Queue to separate them from their social networks.
