Advanced Avatar Customization in Soulbank | World Anvil

Advanced Avatar Customization

Soul Bank is an alternate, postfurry setting for Hello, World, and these rules are designed to cater to characters who wish for mechanical tweaks resulting from their character's avatar. These rules may not be necessary for your character: Functions and Playbook abilities are abstract and can be used to mechanically represent several body types. Gear can also represent temporary changes to your avatar. If you want to travel quickly on the ground, you could easily just say your monocycle represents a switch to a swift taur or quadruped form.

In addition to Playbook Items, avatars can be customized by purchasing boxes of Advanced Avatar Customization, up to a default maximum of 4 boxes. You may purchase boxes of Advanced Avatar Customization during character creation or advancement as if they were Playbook items. You may fill them with features at character creation or by paying an Avatar Modder for it.

Advanced Features:

  • Small Avatar: Your body size is Scale -1. This generally makes you less suited for combat, but more suited for stealth and infiltration. Depending on your target, this may be of benefit or detriment in social encounters. Picodaemons tend to respond better to Users and Process they can see eye-to-eye with. This is not available for Picodaemons and Gigadaemons. (0 Boxes)
  • Large Avatar: Your body size is Scale 1. You’re not as big as a Gigadaemon, but it does tend to help out in fights against groups of normal-sized opponents. This is not available for Picodaemons or Gigadaemons. (2 Boxes)
  • Standard size change (Gigadaemon only): You may spend 1 stress to change your size to Scale 0. This comes in handy for interacting with smaller beings or entering typical rooms without bumping your head. You may clear 1 stress to return to your normal Scale 2 size. You automatically expand to your normal size if you go feral. (1 Box)
  • Ground Mobility: You can move as fast as a typical monocycle if you have the time and room to accelerate, change gait, or transform. Your potential mobility is visible in some fashion and people will know they can’t simply separate you from your ride. (1 Box)
  • Retractable weaponry: You possess a weapon you can conceal from casual inspection, though scans can reveal them. This can be equivalent to a pair of power gloves, a pair of memknives, a sparkmag (1 Box) or a Heavy Weapon. (2 Boxes)
  • Flight: You have a built-in propulsion system that lets you move through the air. Remember that you’re subject to the same air traffic laws as a rotor. You can carry a passenger of one Scale smaller than you. (2 Boxes)
  • Water Adaptation: You can move freely in water or water-like environments and don't require air. (1 Box)
  • Water Adaptation 2: With more extensive modifications, you can move at speeds equivalent to a skiff. (2 Boxes total)
  • Internal Avatar Storage: You can store another being’s avatar inside your own in a concealed fashion, up to Scale of yours -1. This can be useful for Users to keep hidden pets or for Gigadaemons to carry Users. There’s a great deal of trust involved, since the stored being cannot escape without great difficulty. Storing an avatar requires 3 MEM, which is freed up once they’re released. (2 Boxes)

New Memory Purveyor Type:

Body Shop. In many places of Soul Bank, people switch out avatars as readily as clothing, and fashion follows suit. Nearly all provide stress relief by making the process pleasant in some way or another. When you visit a Body Shop, choose how much you spend.

Costs:

1 Coin: Basic package. This includes clearing stress as normal for paying a Memory Purveyor and non-mechanical changes to your avatar.

1-2 Coin: Swap out or fill in your boxes of Advanced Avatar Customization. Particularly extensive changes may require sitting out a score at the GM’s discretion. This may be averted if designing the new avatar is done as a Long Term Project.
