Highton

Highton is a mountain village amidst a forest. The people of the village make their living off the land, and many among them spend their time outside hunting or gathering, as the rich and beautiful country side provides many activities for them. The local government is fairly neutral, if a little bit self important, but typically the settlement is just a happy little group of houses in the mountains. There has recently been an upset in the town as it has changed hands from one noble family to another, and the shift in government has started to make some in the town uneasy. This is the hometown of Finn, the protagonist of the novel, and the place the novel begins.

Government

The village is governed by a "Mayor" who is not really an elected official, but a representative of the noble family, the Alsbrooks, who run the fief the town is in. The people of the village generally don't care much about the government, and it doesn't apace about them. As long as they pay a reasonable sum in taxes, the government does not interfere with them and that's the way they like it.

Defences

The village is protected by high and sturdy wooden walls, that are almost always undermanned, at all hours.

Industry & Trade

The settlement does not trade much with other villages, having no one export that they specialize in for trade. Instead, they live off the forest and sell any excess that comes of that, particularly meat, hides, and honey.

Architecture

The settlement's buildings are made mostly of wood, which is in plentiful supply in their forested area of the mountains, and of mud bricks.

Geography

The settlement of Highton lies on a flat plane alongside a mountain range, surrounded by forest. There is a small waterfall that leads into a pool and small river that flows through the town, which they also use as their water supply.

Climate

Highton is in a temperate climate zone, they have cold nights up in the mountains but generally have nothing too intolerable, if a little bit cooler than normal for the Delian League.
