The Wardtower of the Horse Riders

The Wardtower of the Horse Riders is

Purpose / Function

This building was built in order to serve as a conduit for magical energy needed to contain the Demon King and sustain his chains. It is connected to the Chain of Undeath and if broken, the chain will fail and Erawan will regain his powers over the undead, bringing his minions back to life at his command. The tower is there primarily to protect the inner workings of a magical crystal that transmits the energy from this natural wellspring of power to the chain. The tower also serves symbolically as a symbol of victory over Erawan, and many important ceremonies including coronation are conducted just outside.

Architecture

The tower is made of an incredibly hard substance known as Starshed, a stone material that looks like marble from the outside but is very tough. The tower is made entirely of this material, except for some gold inlay that depicts the dead rising from their graves. The tower is carved with many curves and arches, but without a single window or door. The interior of the tower is unknown to anyone alive, but contains in secret walls upon walls of runes that consume themselves to fuel the chains that bind Erawan.

Defenses

The Tower is warded against most forms of magical attack, and is guarded by the ranks of the Thralashii Crown Guard at all times. It has a fatal flaw in its defenses though, in that the bottom of the tower can be destroyed by physical attack. At the time the tower was built, it was not thought possible that there could ever be a tool that can break Starfall but eventually after the first explosives got invented certain people got some very dangerous ideas.

History

The building was built by Amairgan during his attempt to bind Erawan, using it as one of his six conduits that were to form the chains around him. It was constructed by him and his apprentices using magic over the course of a week non-stop in order to have all six towers ready when Erawan came to the center of the world. The Tower has been attacked many times after that by the servants of Erawan, but they never succeeded until recently when they blew up the foundation underneath the tower and it crumbled.
