The Laws of Somnara

Magic is part of nature, not separate from it—woven into the fabric of Somnara itself. The divine is real and active, but not always trustworthy. Dreams can hold power or truth, and the world responds to great emotion, tragedy, or imbalance. Time and memory may fracture in places touched by ancient forces. Somnara feels alive—mystical, reactive, and always shifting beneath the surface.

Cosmology

In the beginning, the world was formless—a sea of silence and potential. Then came the gods: divine beings of order, chaos, flame, stone, word, and dream. From their battles and unions, the world was formed. The mountains rose at their command. The stars were lit with their breath. The oceans were carved with their fury. To watch over this new world, the gods created dragons—primal stewards of balance and power. Later, seeking companionship and worship, the gods formed the mortal races and gifted them fire, speech, and magic.   The world of Somnara is thus a divine gift—watched by the heavens, blessed with magic, and shaped by the ancient dreams of the gods themselves.

Principal Geography & Features

Somnara is a diverse and ancient land, shaped by divine forces, ancient wars, and shifting magic. From the wind-carved deserts bordering Lyrium’s Reach to the storm-lashed coasts near Goldhaven, the geography varies widely in form and danger.   Jagged mountain ranges form natural borders, hiding dwarven cities and ancient secrets. Deep forests hold druidic enclaves and wild magic, while river valleys nurture farmlands and trade routes. The capital of Caldorias sits atop an ancient hill—unaware of the truth beneath its foundations.   Magical energies still linger in some places, warping nature itself. There are forests that move, lakes that whisper, and ruins where time flows unevenly. The land does not merely exist—it reacts, remembers, and sometimes resists.   Geography in Somnara is not just backdrop—it’s a force of history, mystery, and story.

Initial Active Setting

The initial active setting is the Kingdom of Caldorias, covering approximately 20,000–25,000 square miles.   It includes:   Five major cities (capital, military, arcane, merchant, druidic enclave)   Several border forts and minor settlements   Coastal regions, forests, mountains, and a desert border   While the broader world exists and influences events (via trade, conflict, and diplomacy), the campaign begins with a focus on Caldorias and gradually expands outward as the players uncover more of the world's secrets.
