Albimonte (Nation)

Albimonte, also known by the colorful moniker "The Isle of Sorrows", is a small island country off the shore of Ossia, near the coastal kingdom of Augustford. While its shores are largely mountainous and foreboding Albimonte is known for its vast, fertile heartland and the exceptional grains they grow there. They are second only to the Hinterlands in production and the two countries fiercely argue the superior quality of their crops.
The island's mountainous shoreline, coupled with a trace of some ancient ambient magic, make the seas around Albimonte particularly danerous and storm prone. However an ancient pact with indigenous Thunderbird protects the interior of the nation and its precious crops from harm. This protection was briefly co-opted and weaponized by the despotic ruler George Thunderlord to encircle the island in an impenetrable curtain of storms but the environment has since been returned to normal.
In the wake of Thunderlord's defeat a citizen's council made up of prominent village leaders and elected delegates has been ruling over the country, seeking to undo the damage of Thunderlord's disastrous reign. They have been largely successful in the short term, resuming planting, harvesting and trade with nearby nations but the future is still largely unsettled for this people.
