The Mage's Guild

The Mage’s Guild is an elite group of the most advanced minds in the Solar System. They an interplanetary organization that consists of magic casters from all different flavors. Their headquarters are placed on the surface of Saturn, where they house the largest archive of knowledge known to the worlds and utilize the natural mines of magichite to create a stockpile of hyperadvanced enchanted items. Using this stockpile of information and power, the mage's guild maintains and runs most rift-routes between worlds, researches cutting edge arcane techniques, and intervenes when they

Many people criticize the guild for their stockpiling of resources, claiming that the guild leverages their power for their own interests, giving exorbitant luxuries to their upper echelon members and charging exorbitant prices for their services. Some independent orders have tried to circumvent the hold of the Mage's Guild, but because of their monopoly on magichite and their control of major rift-routes, the Mage's Guild still holds dominance.

Arcane casters such as wizards, warlocks, bards, sorcerers and artificers, are the most common types of casters within the guild, but there are also a decent number of Clerics, Druids, Psionic masters, and even the occasional Ranger or Paladin. Divine casters who join the college are generally servants of a god of knowledge, travel, or forging.

Structure

There are seven factions within the guild known as mage orders that go as follows: the order of the enchanters, the order of the rift-walkers, the order of the archivists, the order of the warmages, the order of the explorers, the order of the healers, and the order of the diviners. Each order has a head of household who holds a seat upon the Council of Magi.

In addition to the seven mage orders, there are three more houses which work in conjunction with the orders, but do not specialize into one specific field. These are the house of the Drow, the house of the Giantkin, and the house of the Hikari.

At the head of all of these is the Head Archmage, colloquially known as the “Merlin.” The Head Archmage is master over a house of his own which is populated by only the most powerful mages to walk the Solar System. While they do not hold sway over overarching executive decisions for the guild like the Council does, their proximity to the Merlin gives them rank over most other magi within the secen orders.

History

The mage’s guild was established in the year 412 by the Elven wizard Saeledhel, as a reaction to the fall of King Arthur. Saeledheldir was a survivor of The Infection of Venus and after watching the fall of King Arthur at the hands of darkness, claimed that the great mages of the world needed to unite, and act as leaders and vanguards to avoid anything like this happening again.

For the reign of Saeledhel, the mage’s guild was a coalition of skilled magic-users that sought to expand the understanding of the natural worlds and connect their peoples. Eventually the terrible grip of time took Saeledhel and his spirit went to wander the heavens along with the stars. The guild changed hands several times, but eventually made its way into the hands of a human by the name of Secundus Renatus. Secundus, a sage hailing from Rome, took the mage’s guild and saw it as a business. He began to twist the mage’s guild from its original meaning and turn it into an exclusionary wealthy organization that mass-mined magicite, controlled major teleportation routes, and charged exorbitant rates for protections on excursions to outer areas.
