Solar System

March 6th, 1214 C.E.

Created by

In the beginning, there was only the ever-expanding sea of the heavens and then came the Eternal Travelers, divine beings that forever traverse the sea and today we have come to know that as "stars." They wash the universe in light, and stave off the harsh and lifeless influence of Noct, lord of the void. Billions of years ago, one of the Eternal Travelers named Sol gave birth to the nine planets and breathed his blessing upon them, allowing them all to support life. This was the birth of the Solar System.

The Solar System consists of nine known planets: Mercury, a burning hot planet closest to Sol, which serves as home to a radiant semi-divine race known as the Hikari; Venus, a lush forest planet consisting of three continents with harsh acid rains, which once served as the birthplace and home of the elves before they were driven out by dark hordes of gnolls and yuan-ti; Earth, the largest of the inner planets with a highly diverse set of climates across seven continents, which serves as the birthplace of humans, fey, and several other races; Mars, an arid red-desert planet rich in metals and minerals, which was first settled by Dwarves; Jupiter, a gargantuan planet which dwarfs all others and is so large and chaotic in its climates that it lies mostly unsettled, except by the ancient Giant races; Saturn, the second largest planet whose atmosphere is so mana-rich that the land is constantly changing and harsh to any humanoid life, where the Mage's Guild has established their headquarters; Uranus, the clouded giant that is shrouded and mystery and legend says once served as home of an ancient, now-obscure, race known as the Gith; Neptune, a water-rich planet that is said to be the birthplace of the aquatic race known as Tritans and the home of an ancient monster called "the leviathan"; and Pluto, the furthest from Sol that was sacrificed by the god "Garris" so that it could serve as the Vault of Souls - a seal for all fiend-kind and the damned souls they prey on - and as the barrier to prevent any alien fiends from ever encroaching on the Solar System again.

In the main setting for the Solar System campaign setting, the year is around 1200 of the Common Era. Transport between the planets is possible and easier than ever through the use of Interplanetary Teleportation Circles, although the Mage's Guild has made these Teleportation Circles so expensive to use that most commoners never get a chance to do so. The majority of known and explored land consists of the four inner planets, Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars. Travel to the outer planets is tricky due to the sheer amount of space that needs to be traversed, and is generally only possible by the upper echelon of the Mage's Guild or other ancient magics and artifacts.

This is a high fantasy Dungeons and Dragons campaign setting that runs across all nine planets within the solar system using magic for transportation. The Earth is based vaguely around the real world in year 1200 AD, and each of the other planets have their own history and environment. Take an adventure through the lush jungles of Venus into one of the ancient elven ruins, or across the arid deserts of Mars. At higher levels port yourself past the asteroid belt and onto the giant homeland of Jupiter. The worlds are your oysters.
