Sigrunn Hrafnsdottir
Veilkeeper
Sigrunn Hrafnsdottir serves as the Veilkeeper of Eastra in Nordheim’s Helsholm district. A stoic and sharp-eyed priestess, she has dedicated her life to tending the fading rites of the old goddess of fate, memory, and prophecy. Among the crowded temples of Wodyn and Valdir, her temple stands quieter, its stones worn but its faith unyielding.
Sigrunn is a woman worn by years, not weakened by them. Her long iron-grey hair is braided back in the old ways, woven with midnight blue cords — the color of Eastra’s night sky. Her skin is roughened by salt wind and candle smoke, and her pale grey eyes see more than they let on. She moves slowly but deliberately, wrapped in a simple deep indigo robe, its hems embroidered with silver constellations and knots of thread. Around her waist hangs a belt of small silver discs, each etched with runes of remembrance.
Quiet, direct, and unsentimental. Sigrunn does not traffic in flowery prophecy or comforting lies. She delivers omens and wisdom as they are — harsh, unforgiving, and without apology. She does not seek followers, only those who have the courage to face what the threads of fate reveal.
"Eastra does not judge. She weaves." This is the core of Sigrunn’s faith. She teaches that all things have their thread in the weave, but none are spared hardship. Even the gods walk bound by the pattern, and Eastra herself is no mother of mercy — only of memory and consequence. She is critical of Wodyn’s priesthood, seeing them as blind men shouting into the storm, unwilling to see the threads snapping beneath their feet.
Though the temple has withered under the growing shadow of the Storm of Oaths, Sigrunn remains at its heart, the last of the old priestesses. She watches the city from the temple’s stone steps, reading the auguries in the stars, in the blood of sacrifices, and in the quiet moments others refuse to see. Her influence in the courts is gone, but those who know of her still seek her out in the night, when they are too afraid to speak their questions aloud.
Some whisper Sigrunn has seen the end of Nordheim in her auguries, but she will not speak of it.
Others say she once turned away a high jarl’s daughter who sought to change her fate, telling her the weave does not care for titles.
There are those who believe the prophet of Wodyn fears her visions, though she has never been publicly challenged.
