Halflings are a small sapient species, Always a step ahead, characterized by exceptional social skills which allow them to easily cohabitate with most other species. Halflings tend to socialize in groups of 50-100 individuals, forming both agrarian and nomadic cultures based on the environment. They are omnivorous, diurnal, and have a deep internal drive to avoid conflict. This drive is thought to be why they have such an easy time adapting to new environments and people, in addition to Halflings seeming to find exactly what they need at exactly the right time. Many halflings hold the belief that Lady Luck has placed a special blessing on them since their days in the old world, giving them a preternatural edge in their survival.
History
Every
Halfling and Human on Solace shares the same unfortunate origin. Humans, Halflings, and
Draego came to this place on massive ships, and those humans and halflings came as slaves. This was over 1,000 years ago at this point, and the Halflings have mostly let the past go. Their current home in Solace is
The Bountylands, its seas reflecting their uncanny fortune and mercurial nature.
Halflings claim no land or king officially, but they conduct themselves in a manner that is beneath the notice of most world powers. Most conquering forces, bandits, and pirates have all been killed by kindness or absence, as Halflings make a habit of bribing or hiding from such problems. There is a famous account of a barbarian warlord named Korgoth, who stated, "The land has tiny houses and tiny fields, but the tiny people are long gone.", having never seen a
Halfling in his entire 2-month campaign.
Halflings are small and generally aren’t considered to be a threat, but the constant overlooking and underestimation works greatly in their favor. They are best for players that want a character who draws less aggression in combat, generally has an easier time, and excels in both support and dps roles.
