School System and Education

Education is important for Miinu, as knowing how the world works keeps them safe and helps the community prosper. However, they system for schooling is a little more loose as there's no standardized system for it. There's no laws that force a child to get a formal education, though the risk of death in an uneducated Miinu is increased.   Parents are well within their right to keep their child at home and teach them what they need to know there, they can easily be thought basic survival and life skills by an experience guardian, though the information is limited to what the guardian knows and understands.   Colony Miinu will often obtain a private education in the hive.

Standard Schooling

In standard schooling, Miinu are sent away for a few hours every day to get an education. This either takes place in its own dedicated space, or places like a library or town hall. Children are sorted by age groups called Instars, that learn different skills. In smaller villages, the educator will spend a few hours with each group, while larger cities can have multiple educators teaching multiple classes at once.

Instar 1

This is the first class nymphs will take in their lives, being from 3-5 years old. At this stage they will learn very basic life skills, like language, self care, and movement skills.

Instar 2

At 6 - 8 years old, nymphs will begin to learn to read, write and do basic math. They will also start about animals, plants, and parts of the world, as well as which ones to stay away from for their own safety.

Instar 3

At 9 -12 years old, they start learning survival skills; such as how to hunt or forage for food, how to build shelter, find clean water, and how to defend themselves against large predators. Many classes at this age will involve taking trips outside the village and practicing these skills under supervision.   Here is also where nymphs will start to learn about the history of their world and their culture.

Instar 4

At ages 13 - 16, Nymphs start learning more practical skills that will help them find a career, including Science, engineering, cooking, horticulture, sewing, weapons training, self defense, etc. At this point, nymphs can choose a subject to specialize in the most and work on that.   This is also the point in time where many nymphs are going through puberty, and they will usually get some sort of education about their changing bodies and about reproduction.

Instar 5

Instar 5 is optional, and many Miinu will stop attending school after their Metamorphosis Day to immediately enter jobs. At ages 17-19, Miinu can choose to learn more advanced subject matter reserved for near adult Miinu. This often involve complex sciences, math such as calculus, philosophy, politics, and more. This is often where they will hone the previously mentioned practical skills even further.   After Instar 5 the Miinu will graduate, officially being considered an adult. Any skills they want to grow from this point on will have to be done under a mentorship, or some sort of university or club.

Educators

Educators can be any miinu who has graduated all 5 stages of traditional schooling. They usually will be tested on their knowledge to prove they are qualified. Depending on the size of the school, solo educators will run the entire school, or a Principle will own the school and hire educators to teach. Educators often also act as caretakers, making sure the students are healthy and taken care of, as school often makes a perfect place to send children to be looked after while the parents work.

Other Features

School usually lasts 2-5 hours depending on the school and how much staff is available. Longer classes will have lunch breaks in the middle, but the students are usually expected to bring something from home, as meals are not usually provided by the school. If they do, it's usually very bland but easy to produce meals involving grass and grains.   School occurs every day except for cold months or bad weather. However, there's no rules forcing a student to attend every day, though they risk falling behind on lessons if they miss too many days. There's also no mandatory homework either, though an educator may request their students to practice certain skills at home.   Some Nymphs who have fallen behind their peers, such as those who enter the education system late, or feral who are adopted late, may need to be held back in the younger instars to learn the necessary skills to advance.
