Low Atlanteanish Language in Slimea Multiverse | World Anvil

Low Atlanteanish

Written by Drackzahn

Low Atlanteanish is often also called the tongue of the commoners. It is a simplified and coarser language than the ancient High Atlanteanish and is mostly used by common people in many parts of the Atlanesis continent. In many nations it is also the language of commerce, most merchants can speak it. If you are a traveler on the continent, this is the most important language to know, as it is the most spread one.

Writing System

The ancient rune system of High Atlanteanish was replaced over time by far simpler letter system with only 22 symbols, split into vocals and consonants. The symbols have similarities to the Romanic letters of Earth but are not the same.

Geographical Distribution

Low Atlanteanish is the most common language on Atlanesis and is spoken by many people. In many nations, it is the second language next to local languages. The writing system in this language is often used in other languages, or only slightly modified.

Phonetics

Speakers are mostly commoners and traders and depending on who is speaking the language and in which context, the language can have a different sound. Commoners often use many vulgar expressions in it and mumble over certain parts of words, which gives nearly every region their own way of speaking this language. Even someone who is fluent in Low Atlanteanish may have problems understanding others when traveling for one or two hundred kilometers from their home region. Merchants on the other hand often speak very clearly, but also very fast, transforming the language into a constant flow of sounds. The language itself has similarities to its parent and also has many low-sounding vocals being used, resulting in a deep language that may sound rough to non-speakers.
