Naming Rights

Originally starting as an official "reward" for battlefield actions within military units recruited from the Kuati Confederation, Naming Rights has been adopted by all Astra Militarum land forces across the 5122nd Imperial Army as a way for rewarding units for good conduct, excellence under fire and other outstanding behaviours that don't warrant a more formal medal.    Although not much in the grand scheme of things, units that have been awarded naming rights are immensely proud of the privilege as it remains with them until the the unit is disbanded

History

Since the founding of the Confederation, Kuati units have had a very unique award amongst their sanctioned list of awards and decorations they can received during their time on the front lines- the granting of Naming Rights.   A result of the Era of Isolation when the Kuati Confederation was isolated from the Imperium and left to fend for itself during an organisation-wide civil war, the granting of Naming Rights to a unit was seen as a way to boost morale and reward those whilst the production of medals was not a possibility. Event after the civil war was over and the Imperium was reconnected with the Confederation, the convention has been sol long engrained in Kuati military tradition, that it was maintained.   Now that the Von Aurach Crusade has been launched and with Kuati forces providing the bulk of the regiments taking part, the practice has been seen and adapted across a number of other regiments within the 5122nd Imperial Army , albeit to a lesser extent

Execution

Whenever a regiment is formed, as per Departmento Munitorum  doctrine, every unit is given a unique way of identifying itself across the regiment it is aprt of. Examples being, the 3rd Kuati Mobile Infantry Regiment have all line squads identified by colours, yet the 21st Kuati Combat Engineering Regiment utilised the Cadian numbering system ,with each squad having a unique three digit identification code.   Whenever a unit has performed in such a way that it is to be recognised by being granted naming right, the announcement will be made during regimental vespers and will be listed on the associated company's orders board. After this point the unit is given 7 days leave from the frontline, during which they will celebrate and come up with the name they wish to use for their regiment, as well as how the unit will be demarked on their armour, usually a symbol and coloured background. When they return they are to present themselves for parade to the Company Commander (sometimes regimental), with armour remarked and the unit commander with present the newly named unit for deployment.   Following the order of "Proceed with orders received", the unit will then head to the frontlines once more, now considered veterans by their peers. Their new new designation is then updated on all TO&E charts and sent back to the regimental HQ for filing away and the old unit assignment is then available for use once again.
