People in Tamriel rarely draw a distinction between different types of arcane spellcasters (sorcerers, warlocks, mages, even bards).

Spellcasters are treated differently by various peoples: Nords and Redguards usually have only distaste for magic and its practitioners, while Khajiit and Orcs see spellcasting as a special and unique talent. Mages are most respected in Cyrodiil, High Rock, and the Summerset Isle because these provinces have strong arcane traditions and see mages as vital members of society.
