Act II
Act II: The Threat of Alduin (Levels 4-6)
Central Theme:
Dragons are returning, resurrected by Alduin. The players must uncover how to stop him while learning to wield their powers.
Major Locations:
- High Hrothgar: The Greybeards train the players in the Thu’um and explain the fractured nature of their souls.
- Ustengrav: The party retrieves the Horn of Jurgen Windcaller, battling restless draugr and a Dragon Priest.
- The College of Winterhold: Seeking insight into Alduin’s resurrection, the players assist with the Eye of Magnus, which threatens to destabilize magic across Skyrim.
Quest Goals:
- Learn the Way of the Voice: After traveling to High Hrothgar, the Greybeards guide the players through training that unlocks new shouts. This includes minor trials in the icy wilderness surrounding the mountain.
- Retrieve the Horn of Jurgen Windcaller: Sent to Ustengrav, the party encounters challenging puzzles, magical traps, and a Dragon Priest who serves as the dungeon’s final boss.
- Uncover Ancient Knowledge: In Winterhold, the party assists the College in stabilizing the Eye of Magnus. This storyline provides crucial insight into Alduin’s plans and the party’s connection to the Dragonborn prophecy.

- Delphine: A Blade operative who believes in their destiny.
- Esbern: A scholar of the Blades who helps the party understand Alduin’s return.
Encounters:
- Ustengrav: Includes draugr ambushes, narrow corridors with pressure plates, and a magically locked door that requires teamwork to bypass.
- Winterhold Defense: A rampaging dragon empowered by the Eye of Magnus attacks the College, forcing the players to defend it while neutralizing dangerous magical surges.
Shouts Gained:
- Whirlwind Sprint: Dash with teleportation.
- Fire Breath: A short-range cone of fire damage.
Climactic Encounter:
- After defeating the dragon at Winterhold, the party realizes that Alduin’s power is growing. Delphine and Esbern direct them to Blackreach, setting the stage for Act III.
