The Blade of Khaarte

Kolimei, mother of the gods, master of the forge and the everburning flame, did not know what she was doing when she first created life. Her first foray into the godly act of creation was Ghaal, a manifestation of her desire for a full world. Ghaal, in turn, created all the wild things of the world, from the lush forests and the flowing rivers and boundless oceans to all the animals that live within them. His power spread all across this new world, so quickly and so rampantly that she feared it may never stop; the mere act of his creation threatened to crush the world. To prevent the complete collapse of her home, she created Khaarte, a force of destruction meant to act as Ghaal's opposite, and on that day she created balance. She made Khaarte to be simple to handle, making him too weak to do much on his own, but forging a blade for him that could kill his brother's creations, and with every bit of his brother's power he removed Khaarte grew more powerful himself. For a time, all was well, but as the millennia passed Khaarte grew jealous of his brother's power, seemingly endless, and decided to take it for himself by attempting to kill Ghaal. This attempt nearly succeeded, and sparked a war that would go on until the ascension as Ghaal created new gods to aid him and Kolimei created new brothers and sisters for Khaarte to keep the balance, always keeping in mind the consequences should Ghaal ever win this war. This war continued until the day Valymir Tristane and his party of adventurers, consisting of the great wizard Mazot, the cazzish thief Tsera, and Leowyn, Kolimei's own champion, stole the blade from Khaarte and used it to kill Ghaal themselves, thus starting the events leading to the ascension. Upon Ghaal's death, Khaarte's blade shattered into several pieces that have since been lost, but some believe that each individual piece should still hold the power to slay a god, in the right hands.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The blade was created by Kolimei using the First Light, which has since been stolen by Olivaste, the final god to be created during the ascension war. The power of the First Light, the odd device used to create the gods in the first place, seems to be the only thing able to kill them permanently.
