Skybenders

From an ancient magic they came, born of strife, their beginning forged by another's shattered end. The very sky bound to their will. Their magic unique to each individual....the Aviators and the Tempest Riders...the Skybenders.
As you know, all Skydwellers possess an inherent magic that they use all their life. So do Skybenders. But for the Skybenders, it's different...a bit stronger and a lot more direct. Every Skybender possesses a unique set of skills, though there are several common ones that almost everyone would have, a few of these being keen senses, higher adaptability rates, extended lifespan, walking safely on storm clouds, and quicker and more powerful healing from wounds.   Aviators are Skybenders who are humans. They often possess subtler powers: enhancing dragons, perfect navigation skills, photographic memories and impossibly fast reflexes. Their more powerful abilities can include controlling trees and moving clouds.   Tempest Riders are an Aviator's equal and opposite counterpart. They tend to posses stronger abilities: controlling the weather, which on its own is a number of different talents: Storms, precipitation, wind, humidity, and stronger storms like tornadoes and hurricanes are all seperate skill sets. They may possess an internal honing device that allows them to hit any target with their breath weapon. Controlling fire, glowing, and emitting heat are also possible, but rarer, capabilities.   These almost mythical beings are so rare that there has been only one documented case of each type. The rest are just deemed stories. The case involved an Aviator-Tempest Rider Bond, something so powerful that many don't believe it was real in the first place. They were so powerful, they could shape clouds into animals and make them move around.   It's difficult to tell the difference between a normal Skydweller and a Skybender. There's no special birthmark, no outburst of talent at a certain age. Some may go their whole lives without ever realizing the magic that they possess. This is because until one is aware of their inner talents, their power is completely controlled by emotion. Since Tempest Riders often possess bigger powers, it takes really strong emotions to use them. Aviators possess subtler powers that can be more easily used but more difficult to recognize. However, once they have used their powers, Aviators' skin will glow when coming into contact with a dragon breath weapon, and Tempest Riders will develop a mark on their nose that looks a little bit like a compass rose.   *This marks the extent of all definite information regarding Skybenders*

Arthur Bookshone, whose journals are the go-to source for most historical events towards the beginning of Skydweller history, wrote this particular piece on his deathbed. Arthur was present at the Last Battle of the Storm and claimed to have witnessed many deeds by the first Skybender pair. Though he was bombarded with questions over the course of his life, this was all he would ever say or write about Skybenders.
