Darkhound

Darkhounds roam the shadows of the Outer Realm, residing exclusively in caves at the tops of the highest mountains. They have sleek black fur, a dark, shaggy mane, sloped back, sharp silver claws, inch-long fangs, blazing red or green eyes, long, drooping tales, and a slight underbite. Their fur is almost always black, but, when exposed to moonlight, their manes will glow red. They see extremely well in the dark and are able to hear and smell things up to a half-mile away from them. They are found in packs - with an alpha male, lesser ranking females and males, etc. Together they hunt bats, cave bears, and other cave creatures. Capable of running fast for extended periods of time, echolocation, and squeezing into small spaces. They communicate with barks, growls, yips, and howls and are fairly intelligent. Their top speed is unknown, as is the length of their pregnancy, size of their litters, and growth rate.   Capable of withstanding extreme temperatures, these creatures are the stuff of nightmares. Feared by Charters, but also the source of much fascination, study, and debate. Their fur is suspected to be able to be used to weave Link Tapestries. This has never been done. No such tapestries exist. Capable of taking down a fully grown dragon when working together, these hounds fear nothing- but are susceptible to fungi parasites. Charters are unsure whether they could walk on clouds, but are hoping to test it. Their existence is not well-known among Skydwellers. Charters speculate that they once roamed the globe and are probably at the heart of many hellhound and nighttime wild hunt myths.
