Exalted

At the time when the gods sealed all other planes away from the Material, they were assisted in the dangerous task by their most devout followers. The Seal was a success, but all these devotees perished and were given the highest honors in the world beyond death by the gods they honored in life. 

All of the prime deities have Exalted. Other divine beings, including descendants of the gods, participated in the Seal but were not Exalted, having survived the ordeal and stayed behind on the Material Plane. 

Many faiths encourage worshippers to petition the Exalted for their daily prayers, while reserving the gods themselves for communal worship or times of dire straits. Clerics and paladins may take an Exalted's name as a middle name or their title as a rank when they join a particular organized religion or order. It is said that Exalted occasionally send celestials as avatars to bring guidance or prophecy to Sirasea, or communicate the desires of their patron god.
