    Yrill Invention of the Hyperdrive
    Scientific achievement

While the true origins of the Yrill species are unknown, the presapient ancestors of the Yrill species arrived on Yrik'k on a vast meteorite which triggered a fiery cataclysm that wiped out most of Vrik'k's native inhabitants.   In the eons since, the first primitive Yrill evolved and spread out over Vrik'k. Many civilizations prospered until they were united under a single commonwealth, the Vrik'k Commonwealth, and now with the invention of the hyperdrive, the Yrill stand ready to explore the galaxy.

    Yrill Discovery of the Cybrex
    Discovery, Exploration

In the first initial expeditions into the nearest star systems, Yrill science vessels discovered the remains of an ancient civilization on the world of Obsholla I.   The civilization was that of the Cybrex, who were in short order determined to be a collective of machines who had, at least at some point, launched a crusade to purge all organic life from the galaxy. The reasons for this crusade were unknown.   While the discovery of other civilizations in the cosmos was expected given the Yrill's origins, the conception of the threat posed to the Yrill by synthetic was widely unnerving. This marks the first, but far from last, major incidence contributing to the Dominion's deep suspicions of machine life.

Following the discovery of the Cybrex, the existence of other interstellar civilizations, both synthetic and organic, became assured. This prompted the holding of a pan-dominion conference to discuss the protocols and procedures of a first contact situation.   After much deliberation, it was decided, with overwhelming consensus, that a cautious approach was to be taken in order to both protect Yrill interests while avoiding xeno-provocation.

    Discovery of the Tchaaskeran Species
    Discovery, Exploration

The discovery of the, albeit primitive, Tschaaskeran civilizations on Edellimar II was, perhaps, a splash of mineral water on the concerns of many Yrill.
The Tschaaskeran too primitive to be of any threat to the Dominion.   Plans were immediately drawn up on the construction of an observation post, and a leisurely debate began amongst the Commonwealths as to whether or not the Tschaaskeran should merely be observed or guided by the Yrill directly.

First Encounter with Automated Mining Drones
    Era beginning/end

The discovery of alien space-faring ships marked the end of an era for the Dominion. No longer were the Yrill alone in their interstellar pursuits. From the moment the presence of alien vessels had been confirmed in the Gottara system, efforts began to initiate first contact.   While some waited with excitement and others with dread, a general sense of unease fell upon the Yrill populace at the discovery that the alien ships were nothing more than a flotilla of automated mining vessels. No exact purpose for this drone fleet could be determined. Further study confirmed a defensive capability and so the system was deemed off limits to further exploration and travel. Comparison of these automated drones to the Cybrex echoed throughout Yrill society.

    The Great Bifurcation
    Political event

Although political divisions had long existed in the Dominion in the form of the Yrill Commonwealths and the various factions which vied for interest within, the Parliament of Commonwealths had largely been seen to be above such petty divisions.   This, however, was upturned by the founding of two organizations. Both claimed that their formation was in response to the other. However true this is has been the subject of much debate among historians.   The scientist Makrr Okk Perk, who pursued faith as arduously as it pursued science, organized a new religious order which would become known as the Conclave of Sacred Traditions. Its purpose was to preserve the spiritual and traditional values held in common by the Yrill Cultures, in effect serving as a politicized religious sect.   The scientist Hukot Orr Petakt, in contrast, formed the Full Enfranchisement Foundation. With intelligent alien life confirmed to be elsewhere in the universe along with budding plans to enlighten the populace of Edellimar II, the goal of this foundation was to ensure that all citizens of the Dominions - regardless of species - would be afforded proper respect, rights, and tolerance.

First Contact with the Imperium of Kolldar
    Diplomatic action

On the same day as the first Yrill colony was founded, an unidentified was detected in the Slyieuzuno system. Determined to have interstellar capabilities, efforts were immediately launched to establish contact.   As attempts to intercept communications in order to decipher their language continued, it became apparent that the unknown vessel was designed with caution in mind even when it came to the most mundane communications. Proposals to hack into the alien system were rejected in the spirit of rejecting the apparent caution of the unknown alien race.   At last, communications were established three years after first contact with the vessel. Diplomatic channels were opened with the self-proclaimed Imperium of Krolldar. A militant, authoritarian Star Empire, the Kroll were treated with caution and diplomatic distance was established between them.   This diplomatic distance, however, did the Dominion no favors, as relations continued to break down due to Yrill expansion and Kroll militarism. This would culminate in the Imperium openly declaring the Dominion as their rival.

    Era beginning/end

Following the discovery of habitable worlds in the Tronde and Batraq systems, it was decided that the third planet in the Batraq system, an ocean world, would be the target for the first Yrill interstellar colonization effort.   These efforts came to fruition when the first colony ship maneuvered through the massive peaks of the planet and set down in a sheltered valley. This colony was referred to as the Batraq Enclave, a name which would come to refer to the entire planet.

In a decaying orbit within TE9-915's gravity well, the science ship Starstone Kr'Ok'Tr discovered a supply ship adrift. Having apparently sustained critical damage to the life support system due to an unexpected geomagnetic storm, it was determined that there were no survivors. Further exploration revealed it to be carrying a substantial amount of mineral deposits.   Upon discovering the Triech make-up of the ship, however, the Seer Geomancer directed the ship and its cargo to be returned to the Triech Hegemony as a sign of good will in hopes of smoothing relationships. This act did not go unrewarded as the Triech Hegemony expressed its gratitude at the Dominion's unprompted efforts, normalizing relations for a time.

    The Great Dissent
    Political event

While the two factions of the Conclave and the Foundation remained firmly in a contest for authority, the discovery of two imperialistic alien empires of no small threat had a clear effect on the collective psyche of the Yrill. It was this effect, it has been proposed, which led to the formation of a militant political party known as the Banner of Triumph. The first proper political party of the Dominion, the Banner advocated for increasing militarism and the assertion of military dominance over the Triech Hegemony and, in particular, the Imperium of Krolldar.   In response, an opposing political party was formed, the Council of Maintaining Amiable Xeno Relations, better known as the Xeno Friendship Council. The Council pushed for friendly relations with other, even borderline hostile, alien species.   It is of some debate as to which party had the most effect on Yrill society. While the Banner would eventually be disbanded with the Council retaining some degree of prominence, it is noted that early Yrill foreign policy strayed closer to the Banner's vision, even whilst the Dominion's domestic policy would stay more aligned with the Council.   Regardless, the birth of the Dominion's first two proper political parties irreparably altered the Dominion's political landscape.

    Revolution

After the discovery of the Tchaaskeran, it was eventually agreed upon that the various Tchaaskeran peoples should be guided towards the formation of an interstellar state modeled after the ethics and principles of the Dominion. Though such they would be technologically dependent on the Dominion and thus of little strategic value given their location, an independent and friendly Tchaaskeran regime was deemed more favorable than direct control over their home system.   As such, after many years of cautious contact leading to direct collaboration, the Tchaaskeran peoples were finally united under a single confederacy known as the Tchaaskeran Democratic League. The Edellimar system was ceded to the League and the observation post dismantled. In exchange for full internal autonomy, the Dominion would manage the foreign relations and expansion of the League.

Upon making contact with the Associated Bodranite States, there was a wave of relief at the discovery that the Bodranite species were Lithoids like the Yrill. Further reassuring was the fact that, while xenophobic, the Associated States were isolationist and thus wished to maintain as much distance between themselves and the Dominion as possible. The Yrill respected their wishes and maintained a respectful distance, and while this meant that an alliance with the irenic bureaucracy was unlikely, at least the Dominion did not have yet another threat on its borders.

    Discovery, Exploration

It had long been theorized that there could exist in the depths of space ancient, advanced civilizations. Theory met reality when the Qlovinserian Shard was discovered, and the Dominion was issued a terrible warning: If any Yrill ship were to enter Shard space, it would be destroyed.   The region of space surrounding the Shard was immediately declared off-limits to all colonization efforts even as attempts at diplomacy with the militant isolationists fell upon deaf ears.   The Dominions list of potential threats grew even more, and there were no prospects of allies in sight. It seemed the Yrill were, in a way, alone in the galaxy.

First Contact with the Polvanite Citizen Regime
    Diplomatic action

First contact with the Polvanite Citizen Regime was more difficult than usual for the times. Situated on the galaxies edge, the citizen stratocracy was more isolated than most.   The first encounter with Polvanite ships was highlighted by the transmission of a series of horrendous noises which would later be realized to be a challenging war cry. Yrill scientists and political officers made the decision to askew contact until the Polvanite language could be suitably deciphered.   As efforts to communicate continued, the Polvanite ship repeatedly made several close passes to the Yrill science vessel assigned to the mission. To add more concern, the ship's gunports were open during each pass and transmissions of what appeared to be a Polvanite leader consisted of gestures which could hardly be considered anything other than aggressive. After much debate, where it was pointed out that the Polvanites had yet to make any outright hostile moves, the decision was made to imitiate the the gestures back.   Eventually, their language was deciphered enough to open communications. It was thus discovered that, not unlike the Croll, the Polvanites were a civilization of honor-bound warriors, and the fearsome cries given on first meeting were their most ferocious warcry, meant to test Yrill mettle. Unfortunately, Yrill failure to respond branded the Dominion as a civilization of cowards to many Polvanites.   Nonetheless, the regime was amiable and respectful towards the Dominion, and, given that the regime was more similar to the Dominion than most, efforts were made to cultivate a friendly and open relationship with the Polvanites.

The portal seemed to lead to another universe or dimension which was wholly inhospitable to sapient life. Upon this discovery, safeguards were put in place in order to safely study the phenomenon.

Unable to find a safe harbor and rapidly running low on resources, the Croll refugees eventually arrived in Yrill space.   The Yrill, true to their beliefs, welcome them with compassion and settled them in the Batraq Enclave. This marked a change in the history of the Dominion. Up to that point, no immigration had occurred due to the surrounding powers. Likewise, the Tchaaskaren, whilst allied to the Yrill, had been permitted their own world. The only other sapient race, the Azizians were, in effect, creations of the Yrill. The possibility of interstellar war had long been discussed and, to some degree, considered inevitable. What was far from the thoughts of most, however, was the prospect of of the Dominion being the aggressor in such a war. And yet, the first war in Dominion history was a war of aggression. Prompted by increased Krollidar hostility and the annexation of Cybrex Alpha by the Imperium, the Dominion declared war on the Imperium of Krollidar to secure a sizeable expanse of space.   Despite expectations that a limited white peace would have to be signed where at minimum the Dominion would secure Cybrex Prime, the war was a stunning success. After the first key naval battles, the forces of the Imperium collapsed before the concentrated efforts of the Yrill military. Unconditional surrender was forced, and the Imperium of Krollidar was reduced by a third in size.   Across the Dominion, trepidation and hesitation turned to relief and joy as the place of the Dominion in the wider galaxy felt more secure than it had ever.
