Paragons of the Deep

The members of the cult of the paragons of the deep worship an ancient god, the Pale King. Legends tell he was ruling over Sienne before the Grey Ones and became darkness itself in order to see the entirity of his realm. His thrown called the heart of shadow is said to be deep below the Soundless Badlands.   At the origin of this cult is a violent earthcake centuries ago that left the Badlands open and opened a cave in which a chapel was waiting to be discovered, covered in unnown languages.   Worshippers consider the King as a loving father, always there in the shadows to watch over them, pull the strings of the world in a huge scheme for the greater good. Considering that death would bring them to be part of the heart of shadow, they do not run away from it and sometimes sacrifice themselves or go to war against the worst odds possible.   Hunted by most people, these cultist recognise themselves with a peculiar locket around the neck. Their gatherings are usually held in crevasses and caves, as each of these locations is beleived to be closer to their god. Many chapels were built underground to celebrate the Pale King.   While most cultists are just regular people asking for good health or happy meetings, some tales talk about vanguards of the god, worshippers that ascended past humanity and roam the shadows to execute the most vile deeds their god asks them to.   While present in the south of the continent, it is rare to see chapels or cultists further north. While no one really knows why, many theories have tried to explain such a difference in religion. The most popular one would be that th Heart of Shadow is corrupting the mind of the people near it and its power decreases the farther you go.   The last time the cult was seen publicly was when some of its worshippers tried to assassinate a famous explorer in Arus Fall as he was going to map the Badlands.
