Moon-tree

"And that's when I saw them. Those majestic trees. And in the face of these wonders that seemed to shine by themselves I could only understand the people of the valley. Touched by this beauty I collapsed, tears rolling down my cheeks in the moonlight and in the deepest part of my heart I felt this tightness, this desperation for not having always known this inner calm, this fullness." -Gredore Kurt in the Confession of Eternity
Moon Trees are the emblematic species of the Cult of the Silver Lady and by extension of the Silverwood Lands. Although very rare and actually living almost only in the Moonfall Valley, these trees, which can reach tens of metres in height, are well known. In fact, it is very seriously believed that the Silver Oaks are descendants of this species that have adapted to daylight.   The place of moon trees in Silverwood society is paramount. The trees are indeed guardians, members of each family of the valley but also a virtually inexhaustible source of magical resources thanks to the fruits they produce. The value of the trees in the eyes of the inhabitants of the valley is all the more important because in their eyes, because of the Ritual of the Ascension, they contain the soul of a deceased ancestor.
"It seems that trees are affected by sunlight and die quickly on contact with it. I think that the lifestyle of the locals must be a result of this peculiarity. I have asked what happens to trees that see the sun and few people have dared even to answer me or look me in the face. The mere mention of this kind of event seems to scare them more than death itself. Some even cried at the thought of it.   Still, it would seem that the trees would lose their magic, their fruit would dry out and the tree itself would fall to dust after losing all its sap, evaporated in its canopy.   I still can't figure out the connection that the inhabitants have with these trees, but I am troubled by it. Yesterday I saw Amilia gathering with one of them. She seemed happy and even made what would be similar to kisses to this tree yet inert and devoid of any resemblance to a human." -Finn Skialgsson in Of The Path of Eyrða
