Talfryn of Shenfell
Archduke Talfryn of Shenfell (a.k.a. High King of the West)
The Archduke of Shenfell, formerly known as the King of Shenfell, was recently appointed by Lorelei Giltumal as the ruler of the continent. He however has been ruler ever since it passed on to him from his father, the former king of Shenfell. For generations the Kingdom of Shenfell has flirted with the young empire, founded by Empress Lorelei but only recently Talfryn has accepted her offer to become the ruler of the first state in her imperial plans.
This decision did not come easily, but it is a known fact that Talfryn struggled during his reign. The political struggles in the east in Everwatch . The growing threat of banditry and other organised crime in Edgemouth. The feud between Stonefall and Whitestone over mining efforts in Shenfell. Not forgetting the far away port city Peppin' Bay, where some of the most important produce comes from, but is known as a place riddled with crime. It does not come as a shock to most advisors and politically active inhabitants of Shenfell that Talfryn closed to deal to gain support of the Empire to better manage these political points of interest.

The Duke of Shenfell is equipped with the finest armor one can buy, engraved with his family crest it is a symbol of strength, but als hope. Solace for the just, a warning for the wicked.
Recently he altered the chestplate to also include the imperial seal, thus proudly showing his loyalty to the imperial system.

Personal history
Born as the single heir to the throne of Shenfell, Talfryn had big shoes to fill. His father, one of the most beloved kings in Shenfell's recent history, was valiant and fought in the Battle of Demon Pass which started the development of the Everwatch Outpost, that later would become Everwatch Hold, under the control of the Silver Ward. He fell in battle when Talfryn was very young, and he had to rely on advisors for most of his teens to rule the region effectively. This however proved problematic and while Talfryn was a fair and just ruler, he lacked the finesse the people were used to. On the age of 27, he lost his greatest advisor, whom also served his father, and Talfryn wasn't seen for many years. This allowed organised crime to overtake the entire region, with military forces being overwhelmed and having a lack of strong guidance. However when eventually Shenfell (the city) was overrun with criminals, it sparked Talfryn to take action, in a few years he abolished organized crime in Shenfell and its major cities, gaining the respect of many of the political leaders. However, there was too much work, too much going on and ever since the region has been slowly decaying, up until Talfryn signed the imperial documents to become its first legal state.
Education
There was little room for classical education for Talfryn, being the high king at age of 12, he learned everything first hand guided by his trusted advisor. He learned swords play in battle with demons and tugs, and learned political intrigue by surviving many assassination attempts from opportunistic individuals that thought he was weak.
Employment
He currently is in the employment of the empire. He pays a tax to the empire, in exchange for help, guidance, men, and solid trade to his region. He only has full control over the city of Shenfell where he has build magnificent palace. The other major cities are under elven control, appointed by the empress without seeking the advice of Talfryn, this was part of the imperial deal.
Accomplishments & Achievements
The biggest achievement of Talfryn must have been the signing of the imperial deal. Some people in Shenfell think he sold out and has lost all control over the region, while others think he saved the region and his people by accepting the help of the imperial forces and structures. No matter what way you look at it, the negotiations were fierce and the document is an achievement in its own right.
Besides becoming the first legal imperial state, Talfryn has many accomplishments in battle. In his younger years he fought against organised crime, destroying many of the underground organisations that were terrorising the region. But he is also a frequent soldier in the wave battles against the demons at Demon's Pass. He travels frequently to Everwatch, not to play any political games withe the Silver Ward, but to fight in the battles that protect the region from demon invasions.
Intellectual Characteristics
Talfryn is viewed as an expert on many fields, according to his generals he is a master strategist. Merchants call him an economic wonder. Politicians call him an excellent diplomat. When somebody asks about how he comes to a decision, he only says that following the heart will always lead to the best possible outcome.
