Peppin' Bay

Where trading is silver, and gold is... gold?

This bay is located in the North West of Shenfell. It’s controlled by Count Barkas Nal. Generally he keeps control over the city, however he tends to look a blind eye if it is within his own interest. The city he controls is filled with scum and that’s just the way he likes it. He keeps the prison and dungeons filled with law-breakers and enjoys the executions a little bit too much.

Government

Peppin' Bay is ruled with a very chaotic hand by Barkas Nal. He loves to party and only interferes with official business if it will benefit his ability to do less work, gain more money, etc.

Defences

Peppin' Bay is walled and protected by the local watch and the Imperial Guard.

Industry & Trade

There isn't much industry in Peppin' Bay, since it focuses mainly on sea trade. The city has three docks, each separated with walls. The outer district, containing the lower docks have the cheapest docking spots, so they are used by beginning traders, fishermen, smugglers, and offers a lot of criminal activity. These docks are very lively at night, and are mostly ignored by law enforcement, since Barkas Nal issued the watch to focus mainly on the protection of the middle and high docks.   The middle docks are bustling with energy by day, merchants from far away kingdoms moor in these docks, hoping to sell their goods in one of the huge markets.   The smallest of the docks are the ones located not far from the castle. The high docks are heavily guarded, especially by the Imperial Guard start from these docks.

Guilds and Factions

The focus in Peppin' Bay lies in trade and seafaring, therefore most factions that can be found here are centred around these topics.   The fisherman's guild helps locals to wield more and better quality fish. The members pay the guild to set a fair market price, and research the sees for prime fishing locations. The guild has grown so big that no independent fisherman is able to get a decent price for his produce.   The Imperial Admiralty is the faction that controls all the ships of the empire. While the headquarters are located elsewhere, the Peppin' Bay branch remains important to the domination of the imperial naval fleet.   Merchant's guild, located in almost every major city throughout Shenfell , their headquarter is located in Peppin' Bay. They have the right of first buy, granted by Barkas Nal. This means that every cargo that enters the city is inspected by the guild and interesting goods can be bought on the spot and distributed by the Merchant's Guild. Merchants that aren't part of the guild are furious by this acquired right, since the produce they ordered can be bought right from under their noses by the greedy guild. Most merchants join the faction and try to climb the ranks to get the nicest and exotic products.   The Brassbound Brotherhood, this monster slaying, mercenaries guild has been growing steadily throughout the empire. Their first guild hall on the island of Shenfell is located at Peppin' Bay. They only recently started recruiting adventurers from these regions.

History

Peppin' Bay used to be called Tamiska Bae, before it was renamed after the fall of the Durrichon Kingdom. It has always been one of the major ports throughout Illaedion, and had roughly the same layout then as it has now. However, the high docks are a new addition as well as the walls that separate the different districts.   The city has a rich history as Tamiska Bae, since it used to be one of the ports where some of the most prolific pirates had their headquarters. One of the most infamous pirates was the still anonymous Duinedubh roughly translated to black man in common. The treasury the pirate gathered is estimated to contain more than 100.000 platinum coins, which makes he the most successful pirate in the history of the island. His true identity remains a secret to this day, as is the location of his treasure hoard. Many adventurers have tried to find the treasure, but none of them have succeeded. The legend of the pirate is known throughout the city as it attracts adventurers who try to buy information about the treasure. Many of the seafarer men tend to lie about the location of the treasure to earn some coin on the side. The lower district is filled with taverns that are themed with the legend of the Duinedubh.   Besides a history of piracy, the city was known for being the birthplace of one of the first and greates wizards that ever lived on the island of Illaedion . Caireann Medb, The Institute, preparing the greatest wizards to a life filled with magic. Most wizards that graduate from the institute join the [Silver Ward] faction.
