Edgemouth

A large city located in Shenfell, overgrown by nature, lies at the outskirts of the Rostìr woods. It once was a bustling trading center during the reign of the Durrichon Kingdom, but after the rupture it lost its usefulness. While the woodlands continue to expand, it has eaten the city in its entirety. This did not stop people from making it their home. The old abandoned buildings, although overgrown, still function and the city is considered a safe haven for everyone running from somewhere.

Demographics

There isn't a city in Shenfell as diverse as Edgemouth. Every species can be found here, and the distribution varies. There is one unifying factor, every inhabitant of Edgemouth has a dark secret and came there to get a second shot at living.

Government

The city was being ignored by Talfryn of Shenfell, but ever since the imperial document was signed, Empress Lorelei Giltumal has been looking for an overly ambitious noble to take on the task of taming the bewildered city. Recently she has found a young elvish noble and burdened him with the city. He's struggling to get any structure into the disgraced city, but he's resilient. Before the arrival of the duke, Edgemouth was considered the biggest bandit camp in the known history of the region.

Defences

While Edgemouth has a wide variety of defensive structures, but none of them are entirely functional because of the destructive power of nature.

Infrastructure

The housing, barracks, walls, and other structures are overgrown with plants, which makes the atmosphere of the city... special. The military presence in the city is mainly there to root out the criminal activity and search for wanted criminals amongst the inhabitants.

Assets

The city is equipped with all basic stores and has, ever since the arrival of the duke, frequently been visited by adventurous, opportunistic merchants, who make the dangerous trip through the woodlands, avoiding ambushes of nearby bandits.

Guilds and Factions

There are many factions amongst the inhabitants of Edgemouth, but they are mostly operating in secret and are using Edgemouth as headquarters.

History

The history of Edgemouth is rich and tragic. During the high days of the Durrichon Kingdom, the city, named Bealach Mór - the great passage -, formed a safe stop before entering the dangerous route in the woodlands. Trying to avoid the woods for trade added multiple weeks to the travel time, so successful merchants stocked up on supplies in the bustling city. Adventurers and mercenaries gathered there to accompany the wealthy merchants on their treacherous voyages. Among the these guides were the woodwalkers, a faction of people that knew the ins and outs of the forest, their employment did not come cheap, but safe passage was essentially guaranteed. After the Rupture and demon invasion, the once popular woodland road laid unused, and the city's purpose quickly became obsolete. Merchants stopped coming by and most of the inhabitants just got up and left.
