Glossary

This is is your one stop shop for every term I'll use in the articles.

Affinity - The natural alignment magic gains as it is used through a world's magic system.
Augmentations - The magical practice of grafting body parts of monsters onto humans to improve their performance in fights the Dodecarchy. Split between Bones, Meat, and Skin.
Angel - Spirits formed from joy, love, but also retribution and revenge fantasies.
Asylum of the Demigods- A massive tower where those who manage to gain a divine spark are sent.
Bones - 1) individual components of the skeletal systems 2) Augmentations that replace bones and alter the body's general shape.
Champion - Augmented Humans who fight in gladitorial combat.
Crystal System - as humans and other creatures use magic, they develop a new body system in unaligned magic, to regulate the Mana that now flows just beneath the skin. The first organ to form is a crystal heart and a set of arteries.
Caster - Another word for Mage.
Corrupted - Any being or object that has been touched by Prima Materia since its decay. often identified because it will be covered in failed repetition of features that were already present on whatever the Prima material landed on. Corrupted creatures are often covered in useless twisted limbs and unseeing eyes.
Cultivation - The act of drawing in raw Magic from the air to turn it into human Mana.
Demigod - A human who managed to gain a divine spark. The divine spark constantly attempts to remake the bearer into a God, but the human ego prevents the transformation from reaching completion. This disconnect leaving them burning with divine fire, immortal but forever in pain.
Demon - A Spirit formed from the darkest parts of human thoughts. Hatred or a wish for genocide is what is needed to form a Demon.
Divine Spark - a little-understood item, created by the reaction caused between a human's magic and the collective unconscious. when a human achieves a feat that would make them famous and revolutionize the world, one is created.
Domain - one face of the infinitely faceted gem that is Reality.
The Dodecarchy - The Government ruled by the 12 noble zodiac houses
Ectoplasm - The material of thoughts made real it. When exposed to many human brainwaves, Spirits will eventually emerge.
Enchantment - The art of using magic to make persistent effects that linger on an object or person.
Fey - Spirits born from wishes for freedom. freedom to live, or freedom to kill, either can form Fey.
Firmament - Crystal Shell that surrounds the world and protects it from the Corrupted and the rotten Prima Materia.
Godling - Affectionate name for Demigod.
Ki - Lifeforce which when using channels carved between the meridians (see below)
Lich - A necromancer (see below) who moved their own soul out of their body and into a construct of their own design.
Mage - One who practices magic. Often referred to by their discipline.
Mana - The magic that is held within a human. As they improve their skills, the density of Mana within them increases, as does the complexity of their crystal system.
Meat - 1) The flesh of animals 2) The category of Augmentations that deal with muscles and organs.
The Mechanism - An experiement in making an artificial firmament.
Real Space - The original universe, but due to the Prima Materia, has been evacuated as much as possible.
Magic Item - an item with a permanent enchantment. Bottles that never run out of the water, swords that burst into flames, and spears that never miss.
Magic System - A divine construct that determines how magic can be used, accessed, and manipulated, as well as locking away access to certain domains. Unique to each world
Meridian - points across the body where Ki pools. With enough effort, channels between these pools can be carved to enable some feats even magic can't match.
Necromancy - A often maligned school of magic that can use Mana or Souls to empower constructs (skeletons or golems)
Prima Materia - The first matter in the universe. Decayed after being left alone for millions of years and infesting the majority of Real Space.
The Questing Fields A Pocket dimension, designed to train and acclimate humans who ever never been exposed to magic, to the wide variety of monsters and environments the multiverse has to offer.
Realm- Planetary system that rests in a Firmament, each with a unique sun, Pantheon of Gods, and magic systems.
Spirit - A creature formed from the collective thoughts of humanity, made out of Ectoplasm. The main varieties are Angels, Demons, and Fey.
The Soul - A magical repository of the subconscious. Often used for necromancy
Shade - 1) A Soul that retained their consciousness as well as their memory. 2) A human who is too young or old to go into the Fields.
Realmspace - The worlds inside the firmaments.
Skin - 1) The largest body system. 2) Augmentations that deal with only the surface of the body.
The Toybox - The main pejorative given to the Asylum, as many inmates feel that they were sent away to rot.
Thought-form - Any creature made of Ectoplasm. The more scientific name for Spirit.
Transmutation - Magic that changes the arrangement of atoms to the caster's will. One can turn rock to lava, and water to wine with enough effort.
Warlock/Witch - Pejoratives for Mage.
