Magic using doctors

The wasteland is a cruel dark place. Life is short, hard, and often ended at the claw, beak, or venom of some beast. Here is where the doctors come in. Though fewer than they were pre-bombs many still dot the world, settling down or traveling and aiding those they come across. The most sought after doctors are unicorns and Hy'till, by using their magic they can heal normally lethal wounds in a fraction of the time and with none of the resources. The most powerful have been known to even raise the recently dead with no ill effects.   Unicorn doctors are common and need nearly no supplies to heal those brought to them, however their magic is not limitless and in the face of great tragedy, such as a bandit attack or bomb, their magic can quickly dry up saving only a few.   Zebra doctors need a steady supply of gems but a well established one can easily stockpile these, vastly outperforming unicorns in the face of major events. But should their stockpile run out they are just as helpless as their unicorn counterparts.   In rare cases a unicorn has a Hy'till mother, this gives them access to the tribal magics any zebra would inherit, the innate magic of unicorns, and the ability to use gems. During times of peace they can stockpile immense amounts of gems by using their innate magic almost exclusively, then in times of tragedy they can alternate between gem and non-gem magic allowing them to recharge their own magic while still healing others.

Career

Qualifications

To be a doctor one needs only be able to heal the wounded with a decent rate of success. To be a magic doctor one must be born a zebra or unicorn with a natural inclination towards healing magic. Those without this can still become doctors, but it requires they study under one who does have a healing nature.

Career Progression

Your career progresses as fast as you want it too. Settle in a settlement and you'll quickly become its dedicated doctor, or travel and you'll gain little renown.

Payment & Reimbursement

Payment and price of services differs widely based on the treatment, the magic ability of the doctor, the supplies needed, and how easy to replace those supplies it will be. A master unicorn may treat minor cuts for free, where as a master zebra will need a bit or gem to replace the one needed for the healing.

Other Benefits

Doctors are respected and though most of their money goes to supplies they live comfortably. They also have the benefit of being a resource, so should a town be attacked they are more likely to be kidnapped and put to work treating the kidnappers than of being killed.
