Liquidation Commitee

Written by: Null Kit

Of all the specialists employed by criminal outfits, the Black Unicorn Society's so-called 'Liquidation Commitee' perturb me a great deal more than most. Not for what they do, mind you - their primary job of infiltrating and cleaning areas of evidence, while certainly illegal and in questionable taste, is neither new or disturbing in of itself - rather, they are disturbing by virtue of how they go about their job: Every member of Ridley Gibbons' trusted specialists is sharply dressed and polite to a fault, albeit sullen and perpetually frowning. Equipment rarely escalates above concealed handguns and vests, the presence of combat-oriented cyberware is an exception and not the rule, and Ridley himself insists that none of them take any performance enhancing narcotics. And yet, not only do these men and women perform their jobs to a terrifying degree, they do so with an unbreakably stoic and dour presence, taking on chemically-assisted disposal of corpses and weapons with the same tedium of an office-worker going about their eight-hour shift.   Despite their unyielding alliegence to Ridley Gibbons and his syndicate, the Commitee are open about being available for outsiders to hire outsiders, so long as the task is approved of by their employers. Their going rates are high, but negotiable and subject to strong discounts if favors earned from working for the Black Unicorn are traded in with them, and their dedication to the job is nothing if not professional to an unnerving extent. A word of warning, however: While the Liquidation Commitee specialises in cleaning messes and staying unnoticed, they are also among the first called up by the Black Unicorn's members when someone becomes a liability and needs dealing with.

Structure

On the surface, there appears to be no official structure or hierarchy within the commitee, with tasks simply being assigned to whatever delegates happen to be in close enough proximity to the area of operations. However, detailed study of what little recorded audio and video footage can be safely recovered shows some degree of deferrence towards older, more experienced delegates in communicating with oneanother.

Public Agenda

Publically (relatively speaking, as a group that only shows itself to other denizens of the shadows), the Liquidation Commitee don't present themselves as hitmen or cleaners, referring to themselves as simply being the assistants or liasons to members of the Black Unicorn Society's board of directors.

Assets

Equipment is uniformly discreet among the Liquidation Commitee, taking great pains to integrate flexible armored panels and form-fitting holsters into the lining of their tailored suits to avoid standing out as a threat. Their primary weapon of choice is the Korth Caesar, a high-end licensed copy of the Colt Government 2066 fitted with a laser-sight, custom-built silencer and caseless subsonic ammunition, with heavier arnaments being procured on a rare situational basis to suit the task at hand or follow the specifications of an employer's request. Implements used to clean evidence appear to be procured on a per-need basis, with only certain elements (Cleaner2, sterile gloves, bleach, body-bags, etc...) being retained from job to job to minimize suspicious purchasing patterns.

History

Unlike many other specialised task-groups, the Liquidation Commitee have been an element of the Black Unicorn Society since the night it became a criminal syndicate, albeit without a name at that point. Ridley Gibbons' plan to elimiinate Mariya Duran and reacquire ownership of the Second Empire on behalf of his friends in the Black Unicorn was one conceived months before it took place, and would undoubtably need the assistance of seasoned and punctual career-criminals. Through the help of the Busacca crime-family in New York, Ridley was able to procure the contact information of several illicit fixers and middle-men in the Raleigh area, both freelancer and members of various organised crime-outfits, and began the slow and selective process of picking together a 'dream team' of some of Raleigh's most experienced career criminals to assist him in his plans.
I actually got talking to someone who got picked up in Gibbons' recruitment-drive, you guys might know them as Digit Knight. If he's to be believed, the actual discussion went off like a job interview, right down to asking for references. References!

Before long, Ridley finally had a lineup of some of the most dangerous and competent criminals in Raleigh, both extraordinarily competant and professional to a fault, the latter of which Ridley prized especially. Those who didn't make the cut were paid for their time, and the ones that were considered a potential liability were silenced - by the succesful hirees, no less.   The details of their first job working under Mr. Gibbons are a jealously guarded secret, as is the case with most of their subsequent activities for their new employers, but the rate of their success was presumably high, owing to the mostly unchanging lineup over the years. As the Black Unicorn Society settled into its new status as an oppulent white-collar criminal syndicate, its team of expert infiltrators and cleaners were promoted, from simply being freelances on retainer to working full-time for the syndicate, replacing one-time payments for a steady wage and even a pension(!), along with crisp new suits to maintain the society's strict standards of decorum and aesthetic.
