“I will make good on my word, and you will not walk alone; for I will always be with you.”
— My own work

I'm Rue. I joined WorldAnvil January '23, and I have been writing ever since I was about ten, though with very long breaks for the most part; I only seriously got into it mid way through last year after a 3~ year break. My goals are a little hard to put my finger on; on a practical level I'd just like to be able to earn enough money from my writing to not die. Most of my aspirations are to do with my novel rather than my worldbuilding, where I'm aiming to create a series that accurately depicts the emotional experience of being trans in our current western society and time (except through a fantasy lens).

With worldbuilding, it's hard to describe... There are a lot of different points, but I guess the easiest to focus on is that I want to spotlight things people don't normally talk or think about much. And to create a setting where when you see the cool stuff, rather than walking away from the screen and going "aww man it sucks that the real world isn't like this," the cool stuff is actually derived from stuff that either does or did exist in real life.

I have implemented some very heavy restrictions on what I am and am not allowed to write about for that reason, and I draw from irl sources for just about everything (with some admittedly fairly large exceptions since the setting started before I implemented those rules lolll)

I am not proud of anything because I have a low self esteem! Seriously though, I dunno, I guess I'm happy that I managed to actually stick with this worldbuilding project; I've abandoned every single other one I've ever started on after 60k words at most, whereas Pretheya is at 350k or so now, counting notes (and novel notes).

Pretheya

Historically, it was believed that rats, among other undesirable carrion insects and animals, were not born but rather simply appeared near dead bodies as a result of a phenomenon referred to as spontaneous generation. Obviously, this isn't true; but people believed that it was for thousands of years. What if there was a world where, because people believed that rats appeared out of nowhere, they actually did appear out of nowhere? That, in a nutshell, is Pretheya.
