Janusian Doorway Guardians

"Janusian Doorway Guardians: Ancestral Sentinels of Magic and Fate"

Created & Written by Khali A. Crawford

Janusian Doorway Guardians, also known as Janus Door Gods, are ancestral spirits magically bound to totems that stand as eternal protectors of thresholds, gateways, and entrances. They act as wardens against malign entities while inviting prosperity and benevolent supernatural beings into a home, temple, or estate. Their strength and longevity are directly proportional to the sanctity of their totem and the continued reverence of their descendants.

Over generations, the power of a Janus Door God grows through the worship and devotion of its bloodline, making elder Janusian spirits formidable beings of vast magical fortitude and wisdom. As magical projections, they are immune to mundane weapons but can be affected by magical forces, anti-magic fields, or the destruction of their totem.

Effect

  1. Threshold Guardianship
  2. Act as gatekeepers, barring entrance to malign spirits, cursed beings, and disruptive supernatural forces.
  3. Their presence strengthens warding spells, enhancing the defensive magic of a location.
  4. If an entity tries to force entry, the Janus Door Gods will engage in combat, manifesting ethereal weaponry based on their ancestral history and bloodline traits.
  5. Abundance Manipulation (Limited Control Over Prosperity and Scarcity)
  6. They can increase the abundance of a resource within their domain, ensuring flourishing crops, bountiful trade, or enhanced magical potency.
  7. Conversely, if their descendants incur their wrath, they may withdraw prosperity, causing misfortune, decline, or stagnation.
  8. Their presence attracts supernatural beings of good fortune, such as nymphs, house spirits, and protective fae, further enriching the abode.
  9. Interdimensional Sight & Safe Passage
  10. Can perceive into the 5th Dimension, identifying threats and disturbances unseen to mortals.
  11. Capable of safely traveling to the 5th Dimension, an ability flesh-and-blood beings lack.
  12. This makes them excellent messengers between realms, allowing their descendants to commune with higher beings or forgotten ancestors.
  13. Retributive Fortune (Karmic Influence Over Their Bloodline)
  14. If the descendants uphold their Dharma and honor their forebears, the Janus Door Gods bolster their fortune, ensuring protection, wisdom, and magical growth.
  15. If dishonored, they may withdraw blessings or actively sow hardship, ensuring the family realigns with its rightful path.
  16. Severe neglect may cause a Janus Door God to wither, potentially fading from existence altogether.

Manifestation

The Totemic Anchors

A Janus Door God does not have a physical body but is instead bound to a totem, which acts as both its vessel and conduit. These totems take various forms:

  • Carved Stone Statues – The most common form, often depicting ancestors clad in ceremonial armor wielding weapons of power.
  • Wall Engravings & Paintings – Enchanted murals or doorframe carvings infused with ancestral magic.
  • Sacred Columns & Monuments – Pillars placed at entrances, deeply inscribed with runes of protection.
  • Blessed Sigils – Intricate symbols etched into doorways, serving as an ethereal conduit rather than a solidified structure.

→ If the totem is destroyed, the Janus Door God is permanently dispelled.

Invocation & Awakening

When properly invoked, the totem illuminates with an ethereal glow, summoning the Janus Door Gods into their full manifestation. Their presence is formidable, and they will engage any intruder or dark force attempting to cross the threshold.

The placement of the totems follows specific ancestral traditions:

  • Totems must always face each other at an entryway, symbolizing unity and vigilance.
  • If placed back-to-back, it signifies discord within the family, a practice only done during periods of civil strife, divorce, or internal conflict.
  • New doorways constructed during marriage ceremonies require the creation of new Janus Door Gods, one from each family’s bloodline, signifying the merging of two lineages.

Janus Door Gods are the immortalized echoes of a family's ancestors, their souls nurtured and empowered by generational reverence.

The Cycle of Sanctification:

  1. Ancestral Enshrinement – When a powerful mage passes, their soul may be bound to a totem, preserving their wisdom and power.
  2. Family Worship & Rituals – Bowing before the totem, invoking its protection, and offering prayers or relics strengthen the bound soul.
  3. Generational Accumulation – Over centuries, the totem and its Janus Door Gods have grown in strength, accumulating a reservoir of magical potency.
  • Children often rub the totem’s belly or hands for luck and favor, especially on birthdays or important events.
  • Guests bow before the totem upon entering a home, showing reverence and respect.
  • During funerals, the Janus Door Gods guide the newly deceased to their rightful afterlife, ensuring they do not linger as lost spirits.

A neglected Janus Door God will weaken over time, and an utterly abandoned one may fade into obscurity, leaving the home vulnerable to dark influences and ill fortune.

Material Components
  • The totem serves as the anchor—if destroyed, the Janus Door Gods cease to exist.
  • However, if they are merely defeated in battle, they can reform over time, provided the totem remains intact.

Related School
Applied Restriction
  • Immune to conventional weapons but can be harmed by magic-nullifying artifacts or anti-magic spells.
  • Exorcism rituals or counter-conjuration techniques may banish them if performed correctly.
  • Janus Door Gods always exist in pairs—a single guardian cannot manifest alone.
  • A doorway may have multiple pairs, but at minimum, there must be one for an entryway to be considered protected.
