Enchanted Materials

Magical Weight and Enchanted Objects

As discussed in the Magical Weight article, when an item is enchanted, its Magical Weight increases based on several factors:

  • The scale of the enchantments applied.
  • The intrinsic power of the enchantments themselves.
  • The power level of the Enchanter performing the infusion.
  • The complexity of the enchantment, as some effects require higher energy density.
  • The type of material being enchanted, as different substances have varying magical affinities.

Because Magical Weight determines an object's ability to interact with the Magical Plane, an enchanted item’s effectiveness and resilience are greatly influenced by the material composition and how well it holds magical energy over time. This makes material selection a crucial aspect of enchanting.

Applications of Enchanted Materials

The classification of enchanted materials plays a pivotal role in magical engineering, artifact creation, and arcane weaponry. Different materials are selected based on the intended function of the enchantment:

  • Weapons & Combat Artifacts: Typically favor Super Uru or Hyper Uru Alloys due to their high conductivity and channeling efficiency.
  • Magical Storage Devices: Require materials with high Continuity, such as Mynr-based alloys, to prevent energy loss over time.
  • Magical Barriers & Shields: Often incorporate Enys elements, as their poor conductivity can act as an insulating layer against external magical influences.

The understanding of material synergy is crucial for any advanced magical practitioner, as improper material selection can lead to failed enchantments, material degradation, or even catastrophic magical feedback.

Manifestation

All materials in reality can be classified into three primary magical types based on their interaction with magical energy:

  • Uru – High performance, excellent magical conductivity, but weak energy retention.
  • Mynr – Poor raw capacity but excels at both conducting and retaining magical energy.
  • Enys – Exceptional energy storage but weak conductivity and transfer efficiency.

These materials are evaluated based on three primary properties:

PropertyDefinition
CapacityThe total amount of magical energy that can be stored in the material before structural failure occurs. A low-capacity material risks breaking under excessive enchantment.
ConductivityHow well magic flows through the material, determining efficiency in channeling and applying magical energy. Low-conductivity materials may struggle to hold strong enchantments.
ContinuityThe duration for which magic remains stable within the material before dissipating or degrading into an unusable form. This determines the longevity of enchantments.

Material TypeCapacityConductivityContinuity
URUPerformanceExceptionalPoor
MYNRPoorPerformanceExceptional
ENYSExceptionalPoorPerformance

All naturally occurring materials can be categorized under these three types. However, skilled Arcanometrists and Arcane Metallurgists have developed ways to refine and enhance base materials into Alloys and Hyper Alloys to balance their properties.

Super Alloys and Advanced Magical Materials

Super Alloys are engineered by combining magical materials to offset weaknesses and amplify strengths:

  • Super Uru Alloy – Excels in all categories (Capacity, Conductivity, and Continuity), making it one of the most desirable materials for powerful enchanted weaponry and artifacts.
  • Super Mynr Alloy – Achieves Performance levels across all parameters, making it an ideal balance of sustainability and magic flow.
  • Super Enys Alloy – Poor in all magical parameters, rendering it essentially weightless on the Magical Plane. However, this makes it useful for certain arcane engineering applications where magical neutrality is required.

Additionally, there exists a more refined material tier known as Hyper Alloys, where specific attributes are maximized through advanced arcane forging techniques. For example:

  • A Hyper Mynr Alloy could achieve Exceptional Conductivity and Continuity, making it the perfect medium for long-term magical storage.
  • A Hyper Uru Alloy could be the ultimate magical conductor, capable of channeling immense magical forces without degradation.

The creation of Super and Hyper Alloys is both a science and an art, dependent on the skill of the Arcanometrist and the conditions under which the alloy is forged. Some rare Hyper Alloys may even form naturally in high-magic environments due to extreme magical stress and elemental fusion.
