Monsters
"Monster" is a catch-all term for the victims and descendants of victims of Ambition's particular form of biological manipulation magic. After creating the goblins and their initial lackluster performance in attacks on humans, elves, and dwarves, Ambition sought to corrupt, rather than create. Wizards, twisted by Ambition, learned to permanently alter the forms of other beings. They sought to craft living weapons, adding beastial traits to subjects.
Most modern monsters can trace their heritage back to one particular tragedy. During Ambitions sneak attack on the Kingdom of Braka, tens of thousands of innocent humans were transformed into monsters to attack the capital city. Although the brutal response of the Warmages contained the fallout of the attack, thousands of monsters escaped into the wild, turning into natural populations.
Common examples of "monsters" are lycanthropes, harpies, and minotaurs, although their are other, more human-like examples, such as cat or birdfolk. They are uncommon in civilized regions, but aren't strange to see in large cities. Their appearances and dispositions vary widely. Some are very human-like, while others are much more similar to beasts. This leads many to view them as untrustworthy and wild.
