Galadar Character in Seori | World Anvil

Galadar

Galadar is a male human and the twin brother of Orrick. He and Orrick were chosen to be the avatars of the gods Inevitability and Change during the ancient Age of the Gods. Galadar and Orrick were the first two avatars to deeply shape the gods they served with their personalities. Unlike Orrick, Galadar was aware of Change and Inevitability's plans to defeat the Óvættrs and usher in the Age of Ascendants. After Change's sacrifice to create magic and begin the deaths of the gods, Galadar withdrew from the world into hiding. Unfortunately, Ambition found him and tore out the soul of Inevitability, which was sealed into a phylactery. Galadar himself was imprisoned in Mag Mel for millennia of Seori's time, and eons beyond reckoning for him.   He was rescued from his imprisonment by a band of adventures from the Morngard in the Serpents Spine at the end of the Listless Ages, only to discover that the phylactery of Inevitability was in the possession of his missing brother, Orrick. After finding his brother, Galadar filled him in on the remainder of the plan that was interrupted by Ambition ages before. In the final confrontation with Ambition, Orrick released Inevitability to oppose and annihilate Ambition, triggering the period of rapid Ascensions that heralded the beginning of the Age of Ascendants.   It was assumed by everyone, including Orrick, that Galadar did not survive the annihilation event that broke the Serpent's Spine. However, unknown to all, Galadar had managed to surprise Inevitability at the last moment, and sever his connection, retaining a sliver of the divine soul to grant him immortality. He set off on his own to rediscover the world he hadn't been a part of for, by his reckoning, at least 20 billion years.

Mental Trauma

After his inprisonment in Mag Mel, Galadar found his grasp on reality tenuous. Because of the extremely slow relative time in Mag Mel, his immortality granted by his connection, even severed, to Inevitability turned into a curse in his mind. Unable to die, he sought refuge in madness. After his rescue, his personality reasserted itself, but the madness still lurks just below the surface, in billions of years of memories of hell.
