Starfall Outpost

Government

The Starfall Outpost is under the jurisdiction of the Kasian Empire. Typically they follow Kasian law, but this is a military outpost on the edges of the kingdom. As such it is under the discretion of the current commander to carry out the laws. This has led to a history of both righteous and corrupt commanders running the outpost.

Industry & Trade

God's Ore is the main trade of the outpost as they can send out well armed groups to retrieve the ore quicker than anyone else. Well armed groups being a form on intimidation as well help keep other groups at bay. Those Kasians that are not soldiers make up the other various jobs at the outpost. There is the Starfall Blacksmiths, an inn and tavern called The God's Inn, and a tailor.

Guilds and Factions

The current commander of Starfall is considered the law at Starfall. Any disputes are brought before them and any punishments are decreed by them as well.

The Starfall Blacksmiths make up the only guild at Starfall. They are also highly esteemed amongst Blacksmiths across the world. It is they who know the secrets of how to smelt the God's Ore into workable metal. If a God's Ore weapon ever needed repair it would have to be brought to the Starfall's Blacksmith.

History

The outpost existed originally to harvest a strange sphere that fell from the sky. The sphere had burned bright as it fell to the earth lighting up the sky. Since it fell in the Arid Expanse the Kasians were the first to gather a force and march towards the sphere. The sphere was massive, steam rose from it and it was still giving off heat even though it had been four days since it fell to the earth. It had also made a massive indentation in the sand that the sphere rested in. A small pool of water was filling in at the base which explained the steam as the water made contact with the sphere. The Kasian force sent a message back to their queen of what had been found so far and began to make small sand structures for protection. As night fell they noticed something else curious about the sphere. It glowed with a soft pulsing white light. The Kasians stood guard not knowing what the light may mean. They watched as it began to fade with the morning light.

The Queen starting sending supplies and scholars to try and figure out what the sphere was. It seemed no normal metal could cut it, but if the tool was fortified with magic than chunks could be broken off. It was during this time of testing that Commander Nahrina, considered to be the first official commander of the outpost, was approached by an old man. The story tells that while Commander Nahrina was making her rounds and checking on the guards a figure crested over a sand dune. The figure fell and tumbled down to the bottom unmoving. Nahrina ordered her guards to stay back and rode out herself. She found an old man in tattered robes looking half baked by the sun. His lips were parched and he could barely wheeze out the word, "Water". Nahrina dismounted and craddled the old mans head while she slowly poured water into his mouth from her canteen. The man drank the water gratefully and then passed out. Nahrina slung him over her mount and rode back to camp with him. She kept guard posted around him for although she gave him water she was not foolish to give him free reign. He could be an enemy for all she knew. For what man travels alone in the expanse with nothing?

Eventually the man regained full consciousness a few days later and Nahrina went to question him. He thanked her immediately for saving his life and showing kindness to him, but she was still wary. He answered her inquiries that he was a man who had glimpses of the future and he communed with the gods above. They told him to go into the Arid Expanse he would find a strange sphere and the one who saves hims should be told what it is. The man explained that it was a rare gift from the gods. A type of ore that they use and had fallen to earth. It is stronger than all other metals known in the mortal world. The man also explained that the gods had told him how to smelt the ore and he would tell Nahrina. The tale was so magnificent and outlandish that Nahrina did not believe him at first, but she humored him and followed his instructions to smelt the few pieces that they had been able to break off. The story does not saw what processed was used for it is a trade secret of the Kasian Empire. The story does say that the man's instruction proved true and in her wisdom Nahrina had tools made from the strange ore first in order to better harvest the rest of it. When she had gone back to the man's tent to thank him he was gone.

While that is the origin story of the Starfall Outpost the Queen of the Kasian Empire decided to build it up more and keep it stocked When the Gods Ore fell to earth there were many other enemies that wanted to take possession of it. The Kasians were able to hold off many enemies, mostly due to the fact that they were used to the Arid Expanse and most invading enemies were not. Also the outpost had the only source of water from a well they created where the Gods Ore fell. Food was still hard to come by but there were scaly creatures with tails that could be caught for food. Knowing the land better than there enemies and being better prepared led to a Kasian victory over their enemies.

Smaller pieces of the God's Ore fall to the Earth over the Arid Expanse. The Starfall Oupost is the closest to these pieces that fall from the sky and as such they are able to retrieve them the quickest out of any other group that has tried. God's Ore has become the main trade of the outpost.
