Xandra's Tower

Xandra built her tower in a valley in the Eldwall Mountains. It straddles a ley line.   The tower has been abandoned since Xandra was taken to the Palace Of The Flayer Of Souls. Over the centuries, it has been ravaged by the elements and looters so that only one floor remains visible above ground.   A magically sealed doorway at the base of the cliff leads to a long hallway with numerous steps going deeper underground. These lead to a dome-shaped room, over twenty paces across, with walls and floor covered in intricately carved magical diagrams that are filled with a deep red light. Around the edges of the room are dozens of alcoves which have similar diagrams, along with what appear to be adamantine crystals that glisten with purple.   In the centre of the room is a pedestal surrounded by runes. On the pedestal is a perfectly clear gemstone, barely half an inch across, which is imbued with powerful magic.   After her escape from the Palace of the Flayer of Souls, Xandra returned to the tower and recovered the gem. She doesn't remember its purpose.
